Can UPS Really be This Bad ?

Sorry just wanted to vent a little about a automotive part I shipped via UPS to a customer. The guy I am shipped to only lives 59 miles from me in the same state of Massachusetts. It not like I am trying to send it to California or Washington. I live in New England and yes we have had a couple of snow storms but how can it take over a week to deliver a package 59 miles away?!?! Really, this weather excuse is just unreasonable because the roads have been clear for all but 2 of those days. If has been tagged as 'Out for Delivery' for 4 days now, only to be replaced by weather delay. I think its should be on Fox news that UPS has been unable to deliver any packages for a week in New England because of some snow! Like we never have snow here - come on !!

Here is the tracking history:

Yes, I will not use UPS unless the shipper has no other option.

Yeah, I read that with disgust. So sad they handle packages that way.

Well UPS gave the same weather excuse for Tuesday as they have done for a week now. On Wednesday the guy's son intercepted the driver and asked if he had a package for his dad. He said he did but would not deliver it because he did not like the condition of the road he lived on. Seems the driver was using the weather excuse to not drive on the road even though USPS and Fed Ex drive on it (along with all the people who live on it) Fortunately the driver gave his son the package and he delivered it to his dad.

Took 10 days to travel 59 miles, but it finally made it.

To answer your subject line, yes they can.
I say again, that I have mentioned many times in other threads, I have NEVER had anything delived to my house via UPS that wasn't damaged. When I order things now, if they ship UPS I ask if they will send by another carrier.  If they won't I cancel the order.
I don't know how they stay in business.  I don't know for the life of me whay ANYONE would use them.

I agree with everyone here about the issues with UPS.  Have any of you heard their response to coverage of package insurance?  They say well if we did not pack it then you run a risk if we dream your packaging is not appropriate.  No kidding!  I told the guy why don't you really say this, we will find anyway not to cover a damaged package.  I was done with them after that.

I routinely use USPS and have always been pleased.

They all suck.  I will not use FedEx if I have the option as they take forever and consistently LIE about delivery. I have paid for overnight to get parts to the shop and each and every time I have they never show by the required 4pm. The driver puts down on the ticket that the business was closed so they couldn't deliver yet they were there until 5:30pm.   :flame:

Even the US Postal system blows....I had to get some documents out for a Mortgage Purchase and Sales, to Braintree Mass, I live in Taunton, Mass, approx 30 miles/30 minutes away, but I had so much to do, I figured I pay the Post Office $24 for their GUARANTEED 24 hr delivery Priority Mail, if I had it in before 10 AM, it was GUARANTEED to be there by 10 AM the next day....well, after "assuming" it arrived at the Bank in Braintree, they called me 3 DAYS later saying WTF!...where's your docs!....the tracking history had it going to the neighboring State of Providence, RI about 40 miles south out from where I mailed it, then sent to Boston Mass, 40 miles further north than it's intended destination, only to be sent back to the Post office I mailed it from, so they could deliver it to the Braintree Branch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, needless to say I mailed it on a Monday, the bank got it on a Friday morning!

And like a fool, I used the same 24 hour USPS service to send a certified check payment on a car in Chicago, from Mass, again the call about 3-4 days later, Hey, where's your check!, I need to close this deal! and ship this car out....more great service!

When it comes to freight shipping, I have to admit UPS has done good for me, a handful of snags over 30 years of shipping car parts, but nothing to cry about, and nothing that wasn't resolved...the worst outfit I've ever dealt with is Fed-Ex...just pure stupidity and piss poor service from just about every Fed-Ex branch I've dealt with

Roctania

I sold a pair of heads to a guy in TX
two identical pkg via usps
one arrived... after three weeks
the other?
they brought it back TO ME after giving it a tour of the USA.
two moer weeks to get that one to the buyer

ups dropped and broke a cylinder head

fedex dropped and broke a trans case.

usps insurance is useless unless the $ amt is high enough to warrant a lot of effort- you MUST have the receipt, then they MAY reimburse the cost of the item, but not their breakage service.  I shipped a keyboard- $10 item and $8 postage.  After I finally found the rct they gave me $10.  So basically they only charged me $8 to run over the keyboard [had tire marks on it] and give it a tour and waste oh 2 days of my time packing it, selling it, refunding the money, and looking for the damn receipt.

Screw that, anything under $50 I self-insure.  Put the $2 in a can, and if/when I need to refund a payment, it comes out of that fund.  Takes 0 of my time, no one needs a rct.

That ain't no bullshit. If I order something and find out it's shipped fedex. I keep checking my neighbor's door step to see if it arrived.
