That was unexpected, but, Good on him - it took a lot of  hard work and $$$ to drive that back out of the shed again

It's good that he "saved" it, but I wouldn't call him a genius for it.  At least you can buy new rails and floor to put it back, or an aftermarket chassis.

Mike DC

Well, at least he didn't start with a nice Charger and hack it up for a Camaro subframe.

If I was a purist I'd be more offended by the GL theme than the undercarriage swap.  ::)
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

F8-4life

Not into it at all, but I'm glad someone will think its cool and give it a home.

Cooter

So........how's this any different than 'draping' one over a 2009 Charger frame????

Well I suppose in both cases the integrity of the vintage Charger is lost, and you're really driving whatever the donor vehicle is in a different suit once completed.

At least the LX Chassis swaps end you up with a better performing car than what you originally started with.

In this case a potentially restorable 68 was cut up to drop over a Durango. Which was a mediocre vehicle new and a crap vehicle now.

I'm not losing any sleep over it, but it is a shame to see a potentially saved 68 chopped up for this.

Well it is of course not better than being all Charger, but definitely better than being all Durango.  :yesnod:

The Mopar LX chassis is up-to-date now but it won't be forever.  In the early 2000s some 1st-gen Camaro bodies were mounted on 1990s F-body undercarriages for an "upgrade".  Now that setup doesn't look too hot anymore.

On the other hand, what does a newer truck chassis have to offer, for the purposes of this build?  The newer ones are more car-like but I don't see the off-roading ability getting better.  And if the size increases much at all then it won't fit under the Charger shell anymore.

I'm not saying I really like the build here.  Just playing devil's advocate.

JB400

The difference between this build and something like what Stevarino is building is, is that Steve's build is being built to enhance the driveability of the Charger.  This, however, does nothing except to give an off roader a cool ride other than a Jeep, Blazer, Bronco, or other 4 wheeler.  The integrety of the Charger is actually preserved in a better way with the LX chassis, due to the fact that it will be easier to drive for anyone who'd want to drive it.  This creation however, is just the opposite.

Not to my taste either. :rotz:

Certainly not the worst I've seen. Not up to Steverino's level.......but definitively better then anything else I have ever seen when you morph a car and 4x4 together.

To each his own I guess......

The surprising thing, the seat setup didn't look so out of place as modern seats seem to in classic Mopars. Now it's got me wondering how Durango seats would fit a more......conventional Charger..... :scratchchin:

The muscle car hobby is full of long-duration cams, tall gearing, stupid tire sizes, stiff suspensions, low-hanging headers & oil pans, gas mileage numbers that outsiders can barely believe . . . street manners are entirely optional in this hobby.
