Mahogany boats were before my time and what little I know I leaned from a fellow I worked with as a teenager. Cars were really the only language we had in common, but we made that work. He's very retired now and is largely done with cars, but he still putters around with boats. Sandy Lake (in Western Pennsylvania) is near his home and when I get back there in good weather, I get a ride in a Swift once in a while.  For a wooden boat, they are very light (partly due to that canvas/fiberglass shell exterior).  In a world of plastic and synthetic things, they look pretty good to me now.  He has also accumulated a significant pile of early outboards in his search for the "perfect" motor for his boats (he has several now).  This latest Mercury has all the hallmarks of being the "one" as it has electric start.  If it was an outboard from the 50s and 60s, he likely has a restored example.
