what is this wire?

You know that piece under The passenger   dash that goes to the heater control valve, there is a black wire under it that I guess is grounded. What does that wire go to? Thanks

what year ? is it a charger ?  , any chance of a picture ?

if its a second generation , the only wire , well cable ! i can remember , is  a black plastic push pull cable that goes to the heater control control panel , temperature lever  ,
there is a capillary ( spelling ) tubing , temperature thing ,  that goes from the firewall heater control valve to the underside  of the A/C box , passenger side
 , unless ive misread your post  , & ive got mixed up & thinking of something else

It's a 69 charger. I took that piece off and didn't ground that wire and the car barely  ran, then I put it back and it's fine. Don't know it that's factory or something  someone did later.

 interesting ,  has your charger got a aftermarket ignition ?    can you trace where the black wire goes ?  , the only stock / oem  ground wire  that is in that sort of location , is ! on the engine side of the firewall , a thick ground wire from the  the right cylinder head  , to the firewall
