Who were Chryslers suppliers?

Chrysler didn't make everything they installed on their cars. What were the names of companies that supplied parts/assemblies to Chrysler?
For example:
Holley and Carter made carbs. Hurst made 4 speed shifters. Those are the easy ones. Bendix made brake boosters.
Who supplied the heater boxes? Were they supplied assembled, or were they a bunch of parts to be assembled by Chrysler? Who supplied glass etc.?
It is something I have been wondering. How much of our car's parts were built by Chrysler and how much was supplied by outside suppliers?

PPG did glass, Kelsey-Hayes did brakes as well, Dana made drivetrain parts, Rockwell did some torsion bar stuff, Motor Wheel supplied some wheels, Fram did filters.

Didn't Fram make air cleaner bases and lids? I thought that Fram made the fresh air air cleaner lids (383,440, Hemi Air Grabber lids). Is that correct?

They could have, there was a Fram plant here in my hometown at that time and they used to have a huge pile out back of reject Shaker bubbles that had a defect of one form or another.  They would punch a hole in the reject and throw it in the pile.  Kids used to sneak in there at night and swipe them, patch the hole and rivet them to whatever they were driving.  There were a lot of poorly fastened Shaker scoops on unlikely cars in this town at one time.
Now that I think of it, the same plant also assembled fan blades to the spider but I don't know if they were supplying them to Chrysler.

Back in the 60s, I worked for a company that made a lot of the emblems for Chrysler, Ford and GM.  We also made emblems for dealers and other manufacturers.  Chrysler is still one of their bigger accounts although the technology has changed.  They are still American made.

There was a plastic injection company near here at one time too that at least did dash bezels for 1st gen Chargers but I can't think of the name.  Across the river from Detroit and up the road from Windsor we had a lot of Big 3 suppliers at one time.

The power steering pumps that were manufactured with a round neck on the tank were Federal pumps.
If it is oval or looks like a Chevy pump, it is a Saginaw, or GM unit.

I contract with some small ma and pa machine shops outside of Detroit to make parts for my job. It is a close nit group of them who do great work cheep. They fit us in around the work they do for the car manufactures. It is feast or famine for these guys and the competition for work is cut throat hence the cheep pricing. I am happy to deal with them and keep the manufacturing we do in the USA

Any idea as to who made their radios and 8-track players? I believe that the Chrysler badged outboards were Evenrudes (just from the shape of the cover). Not sure who made their boats.

The am/fm radio's in my cars were made by motorola

Valley Forge maybe made electrical parts ? on old parts stocks from old parts dealers I have seen their pieces really the same than pentastar stamped.

There were hundreds of suppliers.

Anytime you see a 5 digit number on a part it is typically a vendor number. Radiators & jack hooks are quick places to look if you want to.

A complete vendor list with names & numbers would be a very cool thing to see if it exists.

The 2nd generation AM and AM/FM radios were by Bendix. The 8 track decks were made by Motorola.


I recently saw a manufacturer name on gauges when I was restoring a cluster..it may have been Bendix as well?

Federal Mogul was another supplier of mechanical parts.

Just north of Baltimore there was a Bendix Plant years ago.  They made radios, electronics.  Plant is re-purposed, long gone; but the the Baltimore Museum of Industry they had a thumbwheel AM in one of the displays.

New Process was a division of Chrysler though so I don't know if you would consider them a supplier, certainly not an outside one.

I did not know that , but I googled it .     I remember when they shut down because it was so close to where we live .

My inlaws are from Lyons, Michigan. The trim plant there is now abandoned and the parking lot is full of weeds. I let my 15 yr old kid drive around the empty plant parking lot.
