Help me ID my 383......it'll be fun..i promise

 the numbers on the pad by the distributor says E383   then about halfway down, 1       3     , bottom line R.
the number on the drivers side exhaust manifold (to the best i can make out) says X 3830900-1.  I can't get to the numbers on the side of the block.  it's got a two barrel intake that says 2843681.  The heads are 452's................anyone with any info would be great.........thanks

E 383, is 1969 model year engine.

1  2, is the month and day it was assembled, not sure on the R yet.

The intake number is just a casting number.

They did not have 452 heads in 69, so they were added to that block, but thats not a bad thing.

The "1 3" stands for the assembly date of January 3rd 1969. I believe the 'R' means the engine was for regular fuel. You can usually see the numbers on the side of the block from underneath. They are pretty huge. The casting number should be 2468130 through 1971.

I can't find any reference for that intake casting number either but 2bbl information can be hard to track down.

I can't cross reference your exhaust manifold numbers at all. There are a couple of possibilities that match "XXXX900" but I have no idea if they are right since the first 4 digits don't really look like what you posted.

The 452 heads are not right for a 69 model engine (they weren't available until 1976) so maybe some of the other items were changed as well.

Exhaust manifold number 3830800 is for RH  1974 400-440  Truck Manifolds. that is only 1 number off the one you posted

I can't find any intake number close to yours, as Troy said it must be a late 2bbl intake, I have no numbers for them.
