Looking for the best options to replicate the trunk floor to wheelhouse and tail light panel seam sealer on a 1968 Charger.

I have the brushable 3M stuff but I'm not real happy with the results making it looks factory .

Was thinking about trying something in a tube then brush / feather out the edges to simulate OEM .

100% OE correct is not a major requirement ,,but something very similar would be ideal

Slobber it on thick, use a piece of cardboard to smooth it out, and move as fast as humanly possible.

materials to use.

I used 3M on a challenger last summer and it seems to thick to spread out and even remotely resemble  anything close to OE

Trans star brushable in a tube. Then spread it with an approx. 1 inch wide spreader of any type. I like to mask each side of the seam to help control the width.

I have used eastwood which is similar to sem , lays nice dries slow and firm can be brushed (when brushing I use naphtha in a cup with a brush to spread it without caking up the brush.
Also with the sem and eastwood the seLer will shrink up nicely has great sealing qualities and I like to use 3m ultra pro in the foil beige #8364 levels nicely when not brushed too .
Trans star also is a great product though tougher to get locally here good stuff though.
Fusor makes some good products also 2 part is a lil pricey but has good results.
I have used sem a lot and 3m ultra are my favorites, also temperature must be wArm before application for the proper adhesion and curing .
Either way you need to apply with a tube for that application.
Hope I helped a lil bit

I ordered "Wurth Brushable Seam Sealer" from Goodspeed motoring after a bunch of research. The TransStar stuff Brian mentioned also had good reviews. The 3M was the "go to" product for a long while but it seems to be a pain to work with.

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

We also use some of the with stuff.its black and some areas a very good match to the black stuff the factory used, but for the trunk floor the transtar stuff works great.

Thanks all.
I was about to order the Wurth stuff. but wanted to see what was avail locally.

Ended up with some that flowed out pretty good , but I think would look best if 2 coats .
Will pick up a second qt on monday to finish it up. Hope to have the trunk ready to paint in the next few weeks ,, in EE1 dark blue

how many quarts or tubes does it take to seal up most of a car  is there a color we should be using

Charger-Bodie

To do all of the floors I get a case(12) tubes usually have a couple left. The stuff the factory used is beige , but I have yet to find a brush able that is beige.

I used a full qt can to do the entire trunk and along the cowl seams ( put a new upper cowl in this car ) as well as touch up a few spots on the interior along the rockers.

I would say figure maybe 2 qts to do a car end to end ?

RallyeMike

Down a 1/2 pint of whiskey if you need to simulate late shift factory application. To simulate early shift, down a full pint and 2 beers the night before.

It will take quite a bit more than that if your going for the way I've seen most of them. They spread it out thick.

I used the 3M stuff but then again I'm not looking for a top notch factory look.
What bugs me about it is that is smells really nasty. Vent the shop if youuse that stuff.

I also used stuff from a brand called "Teroson" that came in tubes and is available in beige. that acually works better to duplicate the factory look. sqeeze it out as thick as you want then go over it with a brush. Its not as thick and sticky as the 3M stuff.
I have no idea if the brand is known in the US?

NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

I know my trunk looks like they used  a broom on my trunk  in the corner where the trunk floor extension meets the rear valance it was 3 inches thick  are we talking a good Canadian or a  mash whiskey  or should i go with shine to straighten my eye out

Lord Warlock

I used 3M black seem sealer, just globbed it thick then used a brush to flatten along the seam.  Didn't seem hard to work with either, maybe I got the wrong stuff.  I just didn't want the new trunk floor edges to be seen so put it in as thick as I needed to hide the edges.  I ended up painting the whole trunk afterward so whether it was black or tan colored its y3 colored now.
69 RT/SE Y3 cream yellow w/tan vinyl top and black r/t stripe. non matching 440/375, 3:23, Column shift auto w/buddy seat, tan interior, am/fm w/fr to back fade, Now wears 17" magnum 500 rims and Nitto tires. Fresh repaint, new interior, new wheels and tires.
