A picture to make a classic Charger lover cringe.....

It is his car and it is just metal.  Of course metal is very susceptible to the corrosive effects of salt so...
But it is still his car.  However that doesn't mean I have to approve of everything or anything that happens to it.  No more than anyone else is required to approve or disapprove of what I do to my car.
The Mona Lisa is just some colored pigment on a rag.  If I owned it then it is no one's business if I decide to cut some pieces off and sell them and repaint other parts to my satisfaction.  But even though its none of their business what I do with it, they aren't required to approve blindly.  They still get an opinion.
I don't like seeing salt on it and I would hope the owner wasn't happy about it either.  I am very glad to see the car is still in the family as I think that would be the only potential owner better than me.  :icon_smile_big:

Yes to all above ^^^^  :yesnod:   I would have said exactly what Ghoste just said.... but he always says stuff way better than me. :icon_smile_wink:

And before anyone takes me wrong here, all I'm saying is I don't like to see salt on it.  That's it.  Nothing else.  I am in no way passing judgement on anyone or anything.
Other than I would be the second best choice for an owner in this case and I stand by that.  It has all the bad things I always applaud, silver, four speed, Hemi, 1969.   :D

This is an online forum - opinions abound.  In my mind, freedom of ownership is like freedom of speech.  Say what you want but don't be surprised when some people judge you for what you say.  Do what you want with your car but the same rule applies.  As much as I love driving my car, I still want to be a responsible caretaker.  I enjoy it for me but I want to pass it on to someone else some day.  No salt seems like a no-brainer.  So yeah, this made me cringe a little.

.....or, it could be coming apart for a full restoration....and if so they figure a bit of salt wouldn't matter?  :shruggy:

There's an old Polish proverb, that when translated means.... "Not my circus, not my monkee's".  I've started using that phrase a lot.  :D

Hey guys and girls , I'm new here I am the owner of the silver charger shown with salt on it . Knowing I do not not need to explain myself or the reason this car is covered in salt I will anyway .

This car was purchased from Reedmans in Langhorne PA special ordered after my uncles 68 charger was totaled in Staten Island in 68 he wished to replace the 68 with another 68 hemi but the new models were coming out so he ordered what you see a A4 silver 4speed hemi I have every paper from cancelled deposit check to the build sheet original exhaust shifter manifolds Ect...

Fast foward 1971 after campaigning this heavily in street racing events and a primary use vehicle in the (salty streets' in New York ) this car traveled between Norfolk ship yard ,Philly ship yard, Todd shipyards Brooklyn naval yard and did it well. As a 20 year old kid he raced the car in many places and was known here in Ny and Nj and used it hard and the tickets piled up and the New York State dmv took the privileges of a drivers license away so off goes the 69 hemi charger back to Reedmans missing some of its original parts headers were left in place along with thrush straight pipes a short hurst shifter handle no tips Mallory distributer chrome reverse mags all the original parts stayed in my grandmothers attic all those years fast forward it's 1981 dukes of hazzard is my show I'm a 5 year old kid and it begins  I am nuts for these cars I get a lil older I hear stories of street racing and this car as I get older I own a shop in the area and  men in the neighborhood would say man your uncle had some fu&@ing car kicked ass here on the regular & only adding to this sickness so now I am older have more money and this desire for thie silver hemi charger was still there ever wavering  , I buy 69 r/t from a good friend it was a shell I plan on cloning it to his .

Around 2002 I am with a friend in etown I see a 69 hemi charger dressed in A4 silver from a distance so I say to myself could it be ? Nah can't be That car must be long gone right?? I approach the owner (Doug) introduce myself and the story , he looks and says cars from PA I disagree and ask him if the z bar mount was stick welded like crap do to a repair done in a ship yard in the middle of the night after tearing it from the frame , he replies "no why " I explain I nearly beg him to check maybe he missed it ? After a few minutes he agrees he checks and says as he stands up from laying under the car on a jack ..."tell me about the car" it was stick welded rough and sloppy . I then ask how much he declines any offers so I felt sick but happy that I found her but couldn't have her . I keep in contact for a few years then lose contact for years .

Fast fwd 2013 I'm finally building my clone after sandy wiped the shit out of my home.I decided its time to get something done that I can enjoy as opposed to building for others all the time now cars done all sheetmetal bare bones off rotisserie panels are all gapped done hemi boxes in everything is going as planned car is to leave for paint Monday ! I get a call thanksgiving morning from a friend" the hemi cars for sale " what hemi car ? My uncles? "Yes" ok now or never I call Doug tells me he lost my contact info so he couldn't get in touch with me as he promised I would be the first to buy if he ever decided to sell . Ok this is thanksgiving day I plan a trip to see the car after all it's been 10 years since I saw it the first and last time . I confirm this is the car by a vin match to my paper work from the original purchase and We make a deal but I he had to wait a bit so he does , January is the date for the car to be mine snow falls heavy by dougs home,  cars trapped can't get it,  ok I wait the plan was when the snow melts ill do it , snow comes and comes and comes not looking good maybe in the summer Forward February 2014 ok we get a break no snow just crappy roads I'm going to get it with a enclosed trailer, the evening before I get a call my father is in the hospital and it serious my priority is him the car has to wait ,you see my pop was 15 the last time he saw this car and may have been more excited to see her again than I . So I said I'm getting it home as he will be getting out of the hospital and I'm getting the car so when he gets out it will be home for him to be surprised , ok nobody has a trailer enclosed on short notice nobody can get a transporter booked in the crap weather so I say Fu&@ it I'm getting it if I have to drive it home I don't care , luckily doug had a trailer and did it for me, yes it got covered in salt and dirt , but this is the reason for the picture . And I did bring it home and picked him up from the hospital with (my truck ) and surprised him with the car and he was so happy to see it you could see memories in his face and then the stories started and we just hung out talking about stuff.

You see this car means a whole lot more than money its worth or not worth its rarity to me and the family while I do appreciate the car for those things it means much more than those things . I hope this explains the picture I posted on Facebook and was posted here I have yet to see any Hemi car covered in mud, dirt or salt had a cool factor I think  ! ....I hope this explains the pic and if not really don't give a crap !   :2thumbs:

And we did drive it briefly on the same snowy roads it left 42 years earlier nearly to the day
Hope to post more here if you guys let me ....
Sincerely

What's with all of the noob posters and rookie members acting as if there isn't a care in the world when it comes to these cars?  Is that the general consensus from the next generation of classic Charger owners?  That these cars are just pieces of metal to "set on fire" and other anarchist nonsense like that?  I feel sorry for the remaining cars and parts in the world, for sure.

Yeah it's someone else's property and they can do whatever they want to with it, blah blah blah.  Then again, last time I checked this is AMERICA and I have the right to open my yap and comment on something that was OBVIOUSLY PHOTOGRAPHED TO ELICIT A RESPONSE FROM PEOPLE, just like it has done in this thread.  To the "set the car on fire if you want to" crowd, this is a website dedicated to the preservation, restoration and enjoyment of these timeless machines.  CLEARLY a picture like that is going to evoke strong emotions, as it was intended to do so anyway.

Christ there's so much fail in this thread it's like looking at the electronic version of an HPLAG car...

As usual I can't tell the reason for the MYK essay....  :shruggy:

I'm also at a loss because I don't have my MYK decoder ring handy, or know what spark timing his cylinders are firing on today.

I didn't understand MYK's rant based on the preceding post.  Okay, I'll give in to the fact it was somewhat of a "wall of text"...but it was worth reading!  :yesnod:  Given this structure, it seems apparent that MYK didn't bother to read the text very clearly.

Its always great to hear from an owner, and give us first hand reasons why things happen.  Maybe if the structure was broken down a bit, responses like MYK's wouldn't sound like they came from Mars, and we would understand why the owner did what he did. :icon_smile_wink:  There's so much more than what MYK grasped onto.  :brickwall:   I still think its silly to put a car like this out in the salt, but now I can better understand his rationale...

Welcome to DC.com Honeywood!!

As Charger enthusiasts, I don't think anyone really "likes" seeing these cars intentionally mistreated. In your case, this car appears to be an extended family member, and you knew it would raise your father's spirits.  :2thumbs:

I'm sure it's in good hands, and as a fellow Charger enthusiast I hope it will be cared for and loved like any other family member.
Congrats again on bringing it back to your family!
