2nd Gen. where to put fire extinguisher?

  Kidde Fire Extinguisher FX5 II, the compact Auto rated kind. I picked up one at Harbor Freight while grabbing a spark plug cleaner, 20 bucks. Now where to mount it so it's out of the way but still handy? Thinking I'll get one to mount under hood some place also? (I'd been putting this off for too long.)
  Ideas welcome!

I bought a Kidd unit myself....just can't remember the model number but
its an automotive extinguisher as compared to a regular one.
Won't corrode things.

I bought some 1" wide adhesive backed Velcro and stuck the
"hook" strip along the length of the extinguisher. Then I stuck to
the carpeting right under the front edge of the drivers seat.
It doesn't roll around and is within quick easy reach.

An under hood or trunk mount would cost you retrieval time
and possibly more damage before you could deploy it.

You already disconnect the battery when the car is in
your garage right?

Mine is placed similarly to Tom's, except along the edge of the inner rocker just behind the driver's seat. Visible as soon as you open the driver's door.

Good ideas guys! As I have no installed interior yet is why I'm asking. The dash all is together and done but that's it except for one very worn out old drivers seat. The 2nd one was meant to be just for my engine bay "in case". (My hood has locks installed.) I've run a negative disconnect for almost 20 years. 
Thanks! I'm not putting the console back, what about between the seats?

Mine is also back seat floorboard next to rocker panel. Quick and easy to reach with Charger stopped!

Mine is behind the passenger seat so I can easily reach it from the drivers seat right away if needed.

Spend the dough and get a decent one that will actually put out a fire instead of running out of puff. If it can fit under the seat its too small.

Mines in the trunk in the thick cardboard box with fan belts, water, 1/2'' socket set, ring spanners, fuses, ecu(s), jumper leads, oil pack, polish cloths, wire, electrical connectors ( I'm a sparky ) cable ties, fuel line, fuel filter, first aid kit, insulation tape, different jubilee clips, 1/2 ton jack, tow rope, torch, voltage reg, small tool bag. 

A bit over the top maybe, but if my old car stops under protest at night or in the middle of nowhere, I want to make it go again.
To date though, the only roadside stuff I have had to do is fuses and replace the fan belts on my mates Daytona at the side of the motorway. He was surprised I was driving past and had the correct length belts out of all the people driving past when he had broke down randomly without anything around. Bit of a rarity out here.

Mines in front of the passengers seat. Dont put in the trunk, by the time you see your car is on fire, stop, pop the trunk, and get it out your car will be toast. Most automotive fires consume the car within 30 seconds.

I intend on mounting mine under the dash.

I wouldn't trust using Velcro on one. If you ever get into an accident it could become a projectile.

That's zackly why I need mine mounted too instead of rolling around the pass. floor.

It's great timing for this thread, sounds like I better get a bigger one too.


Speaking of, now this I got covered, but fire extinguishers in the house.  I have one in the kitchen in the food pantry, 5' from stove.
One out by the door to the garage & one out by the garage door corner.  I need to get another for the house since my wife is letting our daughter burn candles in her room.  So much for Dad's house rules.

I have the Sidewinder moved back from the dash so the shift lever is even with about the front of the seat. (With the seat all the way back.) Where it's "handy" to grab.

That stuff has been outlawed for years in commercial, industrial and marine fire systems. Only the Navy has it on board and they cannot get refills if they discharge it. It kills you by restricting you ability to breathe,  suddenly and violently . Generally onboard there is a warning system audible and visual with a time delay before deployment and a long safe entry period enforced with BA kits after forced fresh air fan ventilation- I'd look at another type of extinguisher just in case. Look it up on the net and get some relevant info, please take it out of your car.

It kills you by restricting you ability to breathe,  suddenly and violently . Generally onboard there is a warning system audible and visual with a time delay before deployment and a long safe entry period enforced with BA kits after forced fresh air fan ventilation- I'd look at another type of extinguisher just in case. Look it up on the net and get some relevant info, please take it out of your car.

I dont plan on huffing it    I got Redi-wip cans for that purpose

Ok, its a good read, but it doesn't say much about exposure problems. Might be fine in a small situation, fair enough.
