"Dear God, my prayer for 2024 is a fat bank account and a thin body. Please don't mix these up like you did the last ten years."

When  my mother in law died, we found a few hundred dollars stashed in her collection of books. This was a bit of a chore because she had a dozen book cases with a few hundred books per case. We never would have thought to even looked if she hadn't have mentioned she thought she misplaced some money in a book a few days before she died.  This of course led to checking a lot of other things where we found a coat with some jewelry hemmed into  its lining. Nothing that made us rich at all, but still amazing discoveries.

She was born in Germany immediately after the war and right before Berlin split. Her family walked away from everything they had before the Soviet blockade and she grew up in an environment that of mis-trust of a lot of entities. I often wonder what other stashes she may have had that we missed.

That safe had to have been cavernous to fit all that stuff in there.

This is some of the stuff we found under the floor of a friend's garage. We pulled the floor up during the winter and it was a solid block of ice underneath. We started chipping away at the ice and found something similar. This is only part of what we found.

Drache - Nice find.  If only the person who put it there would have properly prepared it for storage, it would be worth more than it is.  What year are the $1 Canadian bills by the way?  I have a 1954 version in my office in a special "The Buck Stops Here" plastic holder, along with a Loonie coin.

Are Canadian paper $2 bills worth any more than $2 Canadian?

Sorry for the hijack.

A very rare serial number can be worth up to $20,000 but besides that, $2

I haven't even found any cool cars lately...old bottles and baling wire is about all that's left around here after the big scrap metal boom about 10 years ago...
Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

Looking at the photos a little more closely, it appears that you have a set of consecutive serial numbered notes.  Usually when you find them that way, the notes would be in mint, crisp uncirculated (CU) conditions.  Was that from the 1974 or 1954 series (as I can't tell from the photo)?  They would have been worth much more if the conditions were better, which is a shame.  They are still worth keeping regardless of condition.  At least they are not as bad as a certain $1 note that I have that is literally tatters of what it should be.  That one went through a lawn mower and I found the pieces blowing in the wind...
