Today is the day the auction starts for the car Tim Wellborn is letting out of his collection.  Predictions?

EDIT:  Today, the 16th, is actually the day when viewing begins, the actual auction is not until middle of next week.  Sorry folks.

Shakey

I don't really follow the values/prices of collector cars so I couldn't say what I think they'll bring.   :shruggy:

What time are they expected to cross the stage?

Will they all be going across the block at the same time or are they mixed in with others sellers cars?

Has anyone here been watching the action this week?  What channel have you been viewing?

Thanks

Ghoste

His stuff all goes first and they begin around 10am.  It's on NBCSN but I won't be watching it, my boss is down there so I'll expect reports from him if there are any surprises.  The catalog shows the Daytona mentioned in the aero forum as being first up.  It has an estimate of a million on it so it'll be interesting to see.  Bit unusual to start an auction with an estimate superstar like that too.

It used to be on discovery or velocity, but they don't show it anymore. They just show Barrett Jackson. I'm not sure what happened there.
I wonder if the market is ready for all the cars at once? I bet they will cross the block one after another. I've seen collection on there before and it goes that way.
As for predictions, I have none. He claims to have the last hemi charger, but so does another guy. Here's a clip from a Hemings article: including serial number 00023, a pilot-line Hemi Charger; serial number 90774, which Wellborn believes to be the last Hemi Charger built (the owner of another 1971 Hemi Charger, serial number 92238, has also laid claim to having the last Hemi Charger built -
Wonder why they haven't figured this out, who's is the last?

Unless something has changed, next Friday 1/23 is when the Wellborn cars will go.    They aren't going to let those cars run head to head against the big auctions in Arizona.

Ghoste

Nothing changed and you are 100% correct Doug.  I was looking at the catalog with the Daytona on the cover and the date at the top instead of paying attention to the details inside.

Ghoste, do u remember the triple black 69 hemi charger clone my buddy bought that I posted pix of?

Non RT car 2 begin with, $92k.

Buddy with the aar cloned into the hemi car (done in '74) only got $52k.  Same color combinations.

You could always edit again 2 make it Official BJ thread.

I expect all Wellborn cars will have high reserves, and should sell for above markets prices.  If not, there's probably a line of orange Reliable trucks waiting to ship them all back home. Since there's no fire sale, I don't see reserves coming off.  :Twocents:  :Twocents:

Anyone see Dan Hyatt  (8WHEELER) sitting up front and center with the green shirt?

I called 2 Dans out of my phone book and neither was him.

Speed Week at  Bonneville and bj Scottsdale r on my bucket list.

Ghoste

I've done the circus but I am so with you on the Bonneville one buddy, much on my list too.  :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

Cooter

Christine sold for $200k....not bad for an old fin car.

How many cars go across that action ?. It could take 3 days just to bid on something that is only on the auction block 2 minutes.  :brickwall:

Ghoste

For Barrett?  It's hundreds of cars and days to run them all.  Most places try to make sure you get at least three minutes on the block but I'm not sure what B-J promises.

Who was offering that one Cooter?

Ron Pratte car. Hence the tremendous over pay...

Who's this Ron Pratte everybody talks about :shruggy: I guess I'm out of the loop :shruggy: :slap:  LEON.

JB400

Big time collector that bought several of the GM concept cars from the 50's with in the last 10 years.

Ron Pratte has/is selling his entire memorabilia & car collection at "no reserve" at this years Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction.

I believe there are 139 automobile lots WAG ~$50M.  :coolgleamA:

OH, I think I know who he is now. I'm not really a GM guy though. Wonder if he bought that ugly seafoam Green 51-53 Olds or Buick Concept made by Harley Earl a few years ago? Or the 56 Corvette Concept? LEON.

I'm sure glad I'm not the only one who was unsure of who he is and left out of the loop....

He was probably the floor sweeper at the Barrett-Jackson house, until they "re-invented" him into a Mega Millionaire Tycoon car collector....  :D

He owned Pratte homes and dealt in framing and concrete and he cashed out before the housing bust and sold it to Pulte homes.  Pulte is a huge developer, especially in Texas.
