Isn't Tim's supposed to be the lowest mileage one known to exist too. :shruggy:

The white Hemi bird goes for $295K.  Now compare that to the White Hemi Bird automatic that sold at Barrett last year for $500K.  Many were stating that the hemi auto 'Bird last year was not necessarily restored in an OEM fashion, (more of a let's make it real pretty fashion).
So where do you guys think that $200K gap leaves us as we head into 2015?? :shruggy:

The money appears to be in the "Better than Factory" restorations.     So it seems like we now have a new classification

Original UnRestored
Restored Original (factory flaws replicated)
Premium Restoration (elimination of factory flaws)

the money was in "Resto-mod cars" from what I saw this past week....our car bodies mated with upgraded suspensions and power trains...

The White Bird 1302.1 was pulled from the auction.  I don't know why.

I love my trusty hammer.  I've replaced the head twice and the handle three times but that hammer's been with me for years.

I'm curious myself as to which car is the "re body".... I was at the sale and was seriously looking to bid/buy the original paint white car, but it didn't show up or was pulled by consigner.

Btw, I didn't see an "introduction" section of the forum, so here goes.......Chris from Ohio, classic car buff.  I'm mostly a Buick and Pontiac guy but have always wanted a 70 Bird.   My wife surprised me a week ago with plans for a quick weekend trip to Scottsdale to attend the auction, complete with "pre-approved" bidders pass and 3 days in a 4-star resort!   Wow, was I suprised........to top it all off, on the plane ride out, I told her that it would only make sense to buy a car while attending the worlds greatest auction, after all, thats what people do here!    Here's the shocker...."I don't care if you buy a car, go right ahead".     Holy crap......quick call to the banker back home once we land to up the pre-approved buying amount and off to the hotel bar with the auction book in hand I go.  A quick search showed several birds being sold, but only 2 white ones (I want a white car, prefer 4-speed but not a deal breaker). I see the 14k mile car/original paint and decide this could be it...I've got a thing for orig paint/sheetmetal cars.  Unfortunately, the car was pulled, and now I'm beginning to think that was divine intervention after reading the posts of the rebuild.

So, I'm curious to know if that was the car referenced above, or the white hemi 4-speed car.   Btw, I spoke to that cars owner, seemed like a decent guy.  Said he bought it last year at  Mecum, was hoping it'd bring 350's.

Thanks all, looking forward to starting my "wing car reality" here with all of you and your wisdom.

I think you belong on the Dupont registry site , were all poor here and build our own  :icon_smile_big:
Why not have a top notch Hemi clone built for 150 k and be able to drive it everyday ? Im talking 528 Hemi  with T-56  . Pm me if you want one built

Lol, not me!.....I'm no different than anyone else, just a guy who works 70-plus hours a week in our business ( Featherlite trailer dealer) with a wife and no kids.....my only hobby is cars.

welcome aboard, chris. this is definitely the go-to place for all things wing car. several of the folks here have lived and breathed these cars since day one. a few of them are even pretty decent guys.

Thanks Ernie, appreciate it....I can tell that this is a good forum with loads of history and experience.  I have been reading page after page of dozens of the various threads here for the last few days and I'm impressed with the depth of knowledge that surrounds these cars, and more specifically the individual cars and their particular history of ownership, condition etc.   I spend much of my "car time" over on a Buick forum and those guys are much the same.

I'm going to start my search for a Bird, and will definitely look to the wise guys here for any backstory on potential candidates.  As I mentioned earlier, I'm pretty big on either original-paint cars, or a car with an older "one repaint".  I'm a stickler for original sheetmetal and good documentation, and most of all I like a car that has a story of ownership with all of the former caretakers, pictures from July 4th parades, speeding tickets, etc etc.   To me, all of that stuff is priceless.....not a big fan of cars that simply pass from one auction to the next, carted around the country on nameless car carriers with no real sense of ownership, only a "chess piece" for someone.

So, back to my original question.....does that 14k, original paint car that didn't show at BJ ring a bell with anyone here?....
