Bought this car on this site and it has a 5.7 hemi and had general lee vectors on it and I like them but I wanted more tuff look. I went with 15x7 up front and 15x8 rear police wheels with 4" offset. I wanted 15x10 but was told the 5.5" backspacing with 295s would be to much.. BF Goodrich has come back out with the 295/50/15 and I went ahead and got a set. I wish now I would have gotten white letters to the outside tho.. :brickwall: The tire guy said bring it back and it would be free. Let me know what ya think.

Very nice . The dog dish caps are cool . When I mounted my tires , my boss who is totally against white letter tires said " you gotta mount them white letter out " .  He said it just looks right on a muscle car .

Looks awesome, but I say leave the tires blackwall out.
Focus should be on the wheels and car, not the tire sidewall.

garner7555

I would leave black wall out.  But I'm partial because I don't like white letters on anything.  :Twocents:   :coolgleamA:

I am biased but ................ leave them black wall out as it just looks right that way!

P.S.  These are 275/60/15 Nitto Extreme Drag Radials on an 8" wide Cragar. They only come black wall and that is what I wanted anyway!

Arkgl01

Ya I am torn. I do think the black side looks mean. I have always wanted the steel wheel look and a lot of people don't care for it but I have just always been a fan. Especially looking around on here. Everyone at the tire shop said it looks like a moonshine car.. lol

Looks great! Not much of a Vector fan, anyway.  :2thumbs:

Try taking a wheel off and just turn it around in the fender. Don't even have to bolt it on, just place it in the opening. It will at least give you an idea of what it would look like.  :Twocents:

X2. White letters on anything is like a super model with a zit on the end of her nose.
Car looks great!

Go ahead and put those white letters out where they belong !  :coolgleamA:

I like the RWL's out on most cars as well BUT the blackwall looks right at home on your car

BFG RWL look good - everything else looks nasty to me
[ŌŌ]ƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖ[ŌŌ] = 68

(ŌŌ)[ƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗ](ŌŌ) = 70

Ghoste

I would put the white letters out normally but your car has that moonshine runner look to it, I think the blackwalls fit the rest of the look.

Daytona R/T SE

What size tire do you have on the front ?

VegasCharger

Pat1973charger

Nice car! I say RWL out but I'm partial to them. Plus BFG radial T/A are the best RWL out there!

TPR

I'm a White Letter fan, but in your case I'd leave it as is.
Yours is the exact look I'll go for when I get a '69.
Looks like trouble.  :2thumbs:

Always nice to see an old friend!

I like what you've done with it and the wider tires on the rear do give it a nice stance.

Congrats again!

Apparently I'm one of the few who likes RWL out. Whatever, I'm stuck in the 80s I guess. There are worse places to be stuck. :D

One thing that's weird on yours is the sidewall bulge on those rear tires. It certainly does look extreme to me but I wonder if it's a BFG thing because my Cooper 295s don't look like that on 8" rims. I'm thinking about buying two new rear wheels and having the backspacing reduced by maybe a 1/2" or more (more wheel toward the outside) because I've got more space than I like between the outer sidewall and the wheel well lip.

I normally prefer them too Bull but I like the blackwalls with the flat black.  Its like white letters would be too ostentatious on it or something.

JB400

Looks like the Charger that Steve McQueen should have drove in Bullitt. :2thumbs:

Arkgl01

I always thought making a 69 charger into a cop car would be cool. Nothing that cant be removed but do a badge with mopar performance unit. Never seen one done and at shows it would be different.

I didn't think I could like your rig any more than before but I didn't know you were running drag radials, ( on a real Hemi car no less ).

charge69

Thanks 472 R/T SE and I love these tires on it as they seem to have awesome traction, except on a wet road!  I never drive it if there is a possibility of rain anyway.  I've been warned more than once by other users of the Nitto Extreme Drag Radials that they are very slippery on a wet road!  Not gonna happen I I can help it! However, on a dry road, I have been known to "punch it" a time or two! 1st and 2nd gear are a real rush!

And, yes, this is a real Hemicar with the original engine, just professionally rebuilt with a hyd. roller cam and lots of new parts!

Really, how much.  :popcrn:

Laxy

That looks awesome, I run the same wheels and have had the same dilemma on white letters in or out. They end up looking good either way. I really should get mine widened on the rears like yours.

I switched to raised letters out but then liked the look so much I left the hubcaps off!

On yours for some reason I like the white letters better. :shruggy:

DC_1

My preference is, if you have old school 15" Dog Dish or Magnum rims I like RWL especially Goodyear or Firestone. If you have modern 17" - 20" rims I like black wall.

Arkgl01

The all black look does look good too....

:iagree:

I don't remember ever seeing any pictures of ACUDANUT's cars.  :scratchchin: :shruggy:

Alaskan_TA

I love steel wheels.

Even with white wall tires or raised white letters if the car came that way.

Deviate from stock, then black walls rule the day.

Oddly enough, I have a 1970 Valiant 4-door with steel wheels, dog dish caps & it is coded for black wall tires. It is my favorite car for a reason.

Ghoste

I think ACUDANUT has a pic of his on here somewhere.

I think it looks badass the way it is- black wall out. I usually like RWL tires but I really think (along with others) that it would take away from the look on this car.

Steve P.

My personal choice would be WHITE OUT... The RWL give the meat an aggressive look.

I also love the steel cop car wheels, but think your back wheels should be 10" wide. I sold tires and wheels in my shops and every tire manufacturer recommends that the wheel width be as wide as the tread. General rule of thumb.

i recently saw a set on a Road Runner, 68 or 9, that painted or powder coated the wheels the same color as the car and added the punched cop car caps as well... It might sound hideous but it looked really great.. Another set close to the same, had a red stripe around the outer face of the caps... That looked good too.. May have been a stock look, but you could tell it was fresh..

As far as price on cop car wheels, I sold a set of 4) 7" cop wheels off an 85' with caps for $375 bucks.. They were not even cleaned up, let alone pretty....  If anyone wants to sell me their cop car wheels for $5.00 PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!!!  lol.... ;)

RWL OUT in my book....

I personally think muscle cars look tougher with the white writing. Black walls just looks naked. I mean, put a pair of nice pants on, and forget to put the belt on. Does it work? Sure, but it looks like something is missing. Soon you add the belt, it looks complete. To me that is the same thing with black wall tires on muscle cars. It is incomplete.

Wheels are not too bad, but, if you wanted a tougher look... Cragar SS, or Torque Thrust D's. I always find those cop wheels kinda strange.

But, having said that, maybe cop wheels with white writing would be a clash. Since the wheels look weird to begin with, the black walls might suit them more  :shruggy:

I don't bash peoples cars.  Only the wheels.  SE's cloned into Rallyes?   Sounds like you have 72 Rallye envy.

Anyway, Your car. Your way.

Oh you.  You little wheel basher.  Just going around bashing wheels and leaving no comment on the rest of the car, leaving people to wonder "is my car total crap or just the wheels?".

JB400

Wheels in one thread, color of the car in another.   I suppose it'll be color of the wheels in the next build thread?  ;)
