The black upper door pad & lack of white UDF paint doesn't instill confidence in the restoration's quality.  

What's the code for the "black white & blue" interior?

The "Jethro wrap" on the steering wheel, black wiper blades, shabby console and light, warped armrest pad, right rear bumper fitment/qtr panel alignment, scratched rear glass, horrible wheels and tires... I'm sure that list would grow 10X in just a few minutes.

I'm not trying to be overly critical (well, yes I am....)  but for $48 large these somewhat minor things (and horrible stripe) shouldn't be issues.  When you start creeping into the 50K range these cars should be much closer to perfect.

And all also goes to prove that what you see briefly on television (not to mention that a good deal of time and money is spent on lighting to make sure the cars appear as jewellery) and looks like a great car for cheap is not always the case.
And/or the one that does set a record price may just be a nearly perfect car and the one you have just like it back in the swamp may not be worth all that much.

You're right. We could probably nit-pick this thing to death.

Speaking of which, the upholstery doesn't look right. Especially the padding in the upper part of the front seat. Looks a little "flat".

Not a $48K car. Good deal for the seller.

Selling for no reserve.  Who knows why but perhaps the seller knows it is in their interest to sell the car sooner rather than later.  if the car was as represented, there would most likely be a decent reserve.

Selling for no reserve is not a problem as long as you have your buddies there bidding on it, which wouldn't surprise me after seeing the security circus at Carlisle

All auctions at BJ are 'no reserve' now. 

It's more fair than 'reserve', althought the integrity of the whole event could probably be contested.

Just as I thought.....Ron Pratte's cars went off the block Tuesday, so where did all the "big money buyers" go?  

It doesn't appear that a single big money buyer was in the room on Wednesday!     Coincidence?  .....I think not.  

I saw plenty of high quality cars offered on Wednesday.....many of which should have sold for more money.  Are the "Tuesday" buyers on a 3-day tour of Scottsdale.....with full service high-end brothel service on the house?   Wherever those buyers went, I'm sure they'll be back in the room on Saturday when Ron Pratte's collection goes up for sale again.  

Barrett-Jackson is looking more and more like a fraud as the years go by.

I was at the auction when the red '70 went across...pretty fun.  Took a good look at the car beforehand....super nice.  It was sitting right next to a purple hemi 'Cuda, which also went for $200K.

My uncle buys and sells at BJ every year, and is quite 'in the know' when it comes to the auction and buying/selling cars in general.


In his opinion, the Pratte stuff went for about twice what it would have gone for on another day....if not part of the "Pratte Collection".

Just like Vegas, big auction houses weren't built by losing.  The typical casino is Vegas earns 83.6% of the gambling revenue. I'd say Barrett-Jackson clears much more than that to put up some tents.

By the time you add admissions, food and beverage services, media coverage revenue, and whatever else Craig Jackson's greedy hands are in (under the table I'm sure) there's still an enormous huge pot of money leftover for the fat man.....enough to become the Wizard of Oz of auction houses.

Its a viscous cycle.  It becomes more obvious each year that the little guy gets screwed and the "house sellers" typically win.  In the case of this 1970 Charger 440 Six Pack supposed a/c car with cruise (subject of the thread).  I just learned the consignor is a normal "house seller" who brings numerous cars to Barrett Jackson each year and buys just about as many.

For his efforts he will be rewarded.  His abortion Charger (normally considered a stigma to the mopar population) will generate an enormous amount of interest on the block, extra publicity, and huge money.

Any normal non coronated douchebag seller should expect his undocumented "1 of none" Charger to sell for the same money as similarly restored 440-4bbl Charger R/T... and be a Wednesday or Thursday type car.  Not anymore!  Being a house seller he's going to earn at least 2X the normal amount, with a prime time Saturday slot just like all of Craig's other favorite sellers.    

My prediction (made Friday 1-16-15, nearly 24 hours before the auction) is this car sells for north of $100,000.....(probably $125K) which is a travesty to our hobby for a car with absolutely zero documentation proving its existence in the world.  I really hope I'm wrong.....but seeing how the circus operated this week, I don't think I will be.

You are likely right on the price.  Who knows what he gets for the gate, they don't usually give you a receipt for admission.

He has probable done 8 mil at the gate so far. I would guess with everything at this years auction he will do around 35 mil.

Suspect you are correct in your hypothesis though one would think over time the prices gradually converge as the smart buyers would shop on Wednesday/Thursday if the prices are lower.

It will be interested to see the auction of the subject car - how much hype will be in play for a car with challenging documentation?  I may be a glass half full person/overly optimistic but i'm thinking there will be "some" awareness (i.e., some buyers opened the hood and saw the air cleaner) and the price doesn't crack $100k and maybe only a few well moneyed less informed buyers.  I realize only takes two buyers (or one buyer and a seller friendly additional bidder) to run the price up.  We should run a pool on the final price.  I am guessing some wisdom will be injected, but not as much as shoud be, and the car goes for $88,500
