Hi,
I need some help with my A/C.
I have a 1973 Charger with a 440 and an aftermarket A/C conversion kit from Classic Air.
When I am stopped in Drive and I turn the A/C on the engine dies instantly.

I realize the load from the a/c compressor and the alternator jump up and hit the engine with an increased load.  I'm guessing its up to the carburetor to compensate.
All I can think to do now is to increase the idle speed.
Where should I start my troubleshooting?
Any thoughts, suggestions or experiences would be appreciated:)
thank you
Vic

You can add an electric solenoid to raise the idle speed only when the A/C is activated. Type of carb will dictate the ease of solenoid installation.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

that's the problem... the car knows the A/C maybe is not on Tag/buildsheet, and he denies to work with it ( Christinne resurrection )

LOL

being serious... whats your iddle AND specs of engine and TC. When adding performance, trying to keep the stock iddle and A/C can become in something hard to keep nice, so an iddle solenoid which activates when compressor is turned on will be the solution
