Carter AVS 4401 vs 4429s on a stock 440 magnum

I'm running a stock 440 magnum, recently rebuilt, with a Carter 4401 carb on it.  I've heard this carb flows around 625CFM.  The carb is working quite well, (after some tuning/jetting) and performance seems to be good.  I've never had anything else on this motor, so I don't know how more CFM would work.  Has anyone moved from the smaller carb to the larger AVS on a stock 440 magnum application?  I'm curious about whether moving to the 4429s would be worthwhile or not, in terms of how noticeable the performance increase would be.  I'm thinking there was a reason Chrysler put these larger carbs onto the 440 magnum.  Thanks.

Mine has the original 4618S AVS Carb, which as I understand it is an 800 cfm.

Being a Drag Racer back in the day, I was never a fan of the Carters myself, being more trouble than they were worth was my thoughts ? I usually pitched them as far as I could in favor of more tuneable Holley's in my E.T. quest !
Nowadays, some 35 years later....
the 4618S AVS being on my stock and untouched, un-rebuilt original 1969 440 Magnum, I wouldn't touch it for nothing.
No reason to...
It very simply here, runs great, very good power, no stumble, no issues, just plain works awesome.... and I ain't easily impressed !

The morale of my story, I think the AVS as setup from the factory, for stock'ish applications ?  Might be tough to beat even today if you get a good one ?

Thanks for your feedback.  I really like the Carter AVS carbs myself, that being said, its the only type of carb I've used so far.
I was hoping someone has experienced moving from the smaller AVS carb to the larger one, and the different performance characteristics that come of it.
If moving to the larger carb is hardly noticeable, I probably will just stick to the one I have.

Well I picked up the 4429s, I'm sure it will be an improvement over the smaller carb based on some dyno tests I've taken a look at on the net.

I think you will be happy but I'm not sure how much of a performance increase you will actually feel on a stock 440 in street driving, could be one of those only measurable on a dyno or dragstrip things.  :shruggy:

A decent 440 with the factory dual plane intake manifold will see a measurable dyno and track increase in performance going from a 650 cfm to 750 cfm carb.  Everyones butt meter is different, and all of them are unreliable.

Thanks for your feedback.  After I have a chance to tune/test the 4429 I'll respond back with the difference.  Currently, during mid RPM driving fun, just prior to the air door beginning to open, I feel the 440 starving a bit I think.  The 440 really comes alive when it starts drawing from the back barrels.  The extra diameter of the front barrels on this carb I think will make a difference in this area.  I had a choice between the 4429s or a new Edelbrock 800 AVS, I thought going with the carter was a better choice, and I have a few smaller carter AVSs around for parts (metering rods, jets and stuff).
