Hello All,

It has been quite a long time since I've been on or posted but I have one of those stories that a Charger fan would appreciate. Have you ever been in the right place at the right time? I will have to say that I was and want to share my story. Being in the car business and running dealerships I get more than my fair share of wheeling and dealing everyday so when the day ends I am shut off. However, I love barn finds and have been coming up with them left and right by being in the right places at those right times. First was an all original 1967 Barracuda that had been in storage for 27 years. I bought it and a guy, through the grapevine, heard about it and I sold it to him cheap. That's another long story in its own. So back to the Chargers.  I have had the bug to do another Charger project and kind of look around here and there for something of interest. I got word of 1972 Dodge Charger that a guy was wanting to sell pretty cheap. After a few attempts to get some information I was able to make contact and get some information. It was a 1972 Dodge Charger SE with a matching 400 2bbl and only 93,000 actual miles. The car has been in storage since basically 1985 but kept in running order. The car was driven as a daily driver from 1972 to 1984 and has the usual wear items and rust. I kind of hemmed and hawed about it before a three hour drive to look at it.  But after being able to get the fender tag information from the guy I come to discover that the car was originally Hemi Orange. When I asked him how it turned green he said he didn't like the color and painted it in 1984. Hummm? Green vs Hemi Orange (only 600 made). I vote for the orange. Duh!!! I decided to set out into the frozen tundra and go look at it. When I arrived the car was pretty much as was described and expected. Some better some worse but it is all there and certainly think it is worth saving. It fired right up and ran perfect so I decided to try and work out a deal. Then he opens up his garage door and what is sitting there but another 1972 Dodge Charger SE 400 4bbl in Blue Streak. I ask, what's that? He says that it is his baby at that was his first car and pride and joy. He proceeds to tell me stories about the car and it history. This car is night and day from the other 1972 as it is not rusty and is much nicer. I said what are you going to do with that one. He says he thought maybe he might sell that one too eventually. BING! I told him I would buy them both as a package. His response was "make me an offer". When I made him the offer he was silent for about a minute when he asked me if I would take another low mileage 400 with 727 bolted to it that had been in storage since mid 80 and some other parts. I replied that I would take everything that he had that he wanted to get rid of. He said "DEAL". I'm giggling in my head that I think I just scored a great deal on two Chargers. Then he takes me out to his shed in the back yard and starts pulling parts out. Apparently he had another Charger years before that had been totaled in an accident and he pulled everything that was good off it. Also sitting there were the original Hemi Orange doors from the green Charger in what I would consider to be excellent condition. He said he had replaced the doors from the wrecked car because the both had a dent in them. YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING! The pile of parts is impressive and welcomed, and too endless to detail. After explaining to him how appreciative I was for all of it he exclaims, "WE AREN'T DONE". He then goes up into his large storage space above his garage and starts handing me down boxes and bags and parts, parts and more parts. It filled a garage stall with what I am going to guess is at least several thousand dollars worth of parts. I had to ask him because I am in just disbelief of why he wanted to sell it all off. His life is just going in a different direction and has no interest in messing with them anymore. I trailered both cars home this last weekend after driving through a previous snowfall and minus 2 below zero weather but they are home along with the parts treasures. An adventure in itself to get them home but worth it! Now what? I am going to sell off the one that was originally orange and do some fine tuning on the blue one before I sell that one too. In the end I am a generation 2 guy and am really looking for 1970 to add to the collection. I will pop some pictures up of the twins this weekend to share. If anyone is interested drop me a PM and we can chat. Thought you might like this story.
