How can they claim the mods are subtle and you are missing them and then brag about the only thing not drastically modified was the center of the roof?  Best just stick to fiberglass 32 Fords.

I believe they thought I was criticizing their fabrication skills, whereas I was actually criticizing the work of their designer.  Fabrication wise, their work is top notch, from what I can see in the pix.  However, I think their designer had never seen a Charger, and had no idea what to do to it, or had even been around Mopars in general to know much about them.  They've done a Cuda as well, but those cars look close enough to Camaro in side profile, so they know what works.  In my mind, they were cluesless as to what to do with the Charger, so they just made changes to make changes.

At first glance I thought it was the "Project Maximus" Charger.
But after looking at the pictures a bit more closely, I don't think it is. Seems to be a different group/custom shop building it.

Some stuff I really like, some stuff I'm kind of "meh..." about. Either way, a lot of very nice custom work. Can't fault the metalwork. I DO kind of like the wider rear-end, and how they extended the rockers further down to cover the pinch seam underneath.

Customs are and always have been about personal tastes (or lot thereof) and will never appeal to the masses.  But, then by their very nature they were/are not intended to appeal to everyone.  A lot of work and personal pride goes into a full custom, but anyone building a custom should understand that there will be those out there that feel the same as a lot of you do, that all they really did with their custom was to destroy a nice car.  That's the danger in trying to be different.
 
For me personally, I feel they took the whole concept over broad and removed what the 1968 Charger is all about.  It's a case of overkill on a grand scale.  I have always felt that enhancing a design by incorporating minor changes and improving on the original design are much better.   Example being removing bumper bolts, and tucking the bumpers in closer to the body.....things like that.  Not that I don't like a full on custom....one of my favorites is the Thunder Charger built by Barris for the movie Thunder Alley...the car that got me into Chargers.

Like others have said about this Charger.....quality workmanship, just not my cup of tea....

That poor Charger is FUBAR

Its just a matter for these shops to come to a show like that and show the people their skills. It takes alot of skill to fabricate something like that....the result is up to you if you like it or not. Its just a buisiness card for these guys.

Apparently it takes even more skill to leave them alone.  There are countless cars that rolled off the line that can be improved, why mess with one that doesn't need it?  To prove you were wrong?

Exactly!!!  You want to prove your fabrication skills?  Don't show me how shocking you can make a car thats generally regarded as ideal right out of the box, go to town on an Aztek and see if you can make me like it.

I am all for refining , tweeking, shaving, and tucking but while as everyone agrees this is a monument to skilled craftsmanship it still was in the service of a bad design. They turned a sexy lady into a pornstar with gigantic boobs and silicone injected lips. Not very tasteful. :Twocents:

A big-name shop built it.  
They chopped up a desirable bodystyle.  
They probably spent six figures just on the engine & CNC work alone.  

The end result of all that is guaranteed glowing press coverage.  It could look like the car from "Corvette Summer" and nobody would fail to cover it or question the styling.      





If given the choice between owning that POS Charger or owning the CS Vette.....I'd rather be seen in this

Pretty cool Charger.

Whoever wanted it that way, got exactly what they paid for. If anything, the way they turned it into a 2 seater, i thought was awesome.

Just goes to show you can do anything you want with these. Good to see there are shops with the skill to build whatever you may have in vision.

I can appreciate the Fabrication skill, and I actually like the wheels, they pay tribute to the old vectors. They are probably one offs so no access to them.   I think where they got lost was in the color scheme.  Its just too one dimensional.  All that detail lost in a muted gray abyss.  Interior is creative and I like.  Its gotta suck to put it all out there and so many agree it fell short.   :icon_smile_dissapprove:

I'm sorry to diss good craftsmanship too.  But dramatically messing with the lines on a 2nd-gen is a losing game, period. I cannot think of one goddamn time it has really worked in the almost 50 years that design has existed.  People never stop trying but they never succeed.    
 

If a shop is having urges to rebuild most of a 2nd-gen's sheetmetal, they should go restore a rusty stock one.
