Turned down a Charger in trade for my Dart

QuoteSince restoration the car has 7800 miles on the body and rebuilt 340 and 2500 miles on a brand new 727 transmission. Frame, floorboards, trunk, all rust free. Tiniest bit of surface rust on the body but that could easily be fixed with a little bit of car paint from Canadian Tire (costs about $5.) Interior is pretty much mint. It's a great car. Fast as hell and surprisingly not that bad on gas either. 650 Holley double pumper 4 barrel carb, Edelbrock intake manifold, long tube headers and 3 inch Dynomax exhaust all the way through

$15,000.00

Now maybe it's just me but there seems to be more than just simple "surface rust" in the rocker panels in the one picture. And the color of the body and the interior....

The biggest no was simply because the car was out of Province. A car needs to be near 100% mint to pass the inspection here in BC.

I'm not ordinarily much of a Dart guy but is not deal I would take either.  I love the part about 5 bucks worth a CTC car paint will easily repair the rust.

I also think the charger nice, but I wouldn't trade your dart for it.
Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

Wise move.  I would have kept the Dart too.

Why spend the money on painting the car, redoing the interior, fresh engine/tranny, then spray bomb the stock steel wheels aluminum?  :slap:
Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

Good decision. IMHO a 73-74 Charger ain't worth dime.

F8-4life

Looks like junkyard wheels on that one.
Maybe try to trade the dart for a running project 68-70?
That might be worth it, but not this trade.

RallyeMike

That was pretty much a no-brainer. The Charger interior is hideous.

4100 lb car with a 340 and old skinny tires is "fast as hell"? I guess he usually drives a moped?

As if I would expect anything but garbage coming from you. You have been challenged more times than not on this forum and on 73-74 chargers.  Show us what you got or keep your worthless and stupid opinions to yourself!

Have to admit I am not a Dart guy as well Drache, but I would not turn down your sweet ride. This charger has been for sale for some time. Sadly the color is an issue. I would certainly hope the owner offered you some serious cash as well.  Most of us know what it is like to yearn for a nice ride, can't fault the guy for trying.

If he spent some money on the Charger cosmetically he might decide he wants to keep it.  :shruggy:

True enough. There really are not a lot of opportunities to buy a decent old car.

That proposal wouldn't even register to me as something deserving an answer.

Drache

Well I was offered $24,000 for my car from a "flipper" who is a friend of mine. It hurt by I turned him down.

I judged what my car was like (clean built 440, no rust, good rear end, etc) and looked at cars available and it would be hard to find another car like that for that money. I would love a B-body but the money people ask for them up here and the costs to import one, means the that $24,000 just wouldn't get me a car with this level already done.  :-\
