...15 winged cars in our town/county

69 DAYTONA

...just thinking how many winged cars there have been within our city limits and how many have been in our county over the years
...New Castle Indiana is a town of approximately 15-17,000 population, it also had a Maxwell/Chrysler Plant for nearly 100 years...muscle cars and MOPARS in particular have always been in abundance here...currently there are 3 Superbirds(1 is a convertible Phantom)and 2 Daytonas in our little town, but since 1969 I can think of 9-10 different locally owned winged cars ...adding the ones within 10 miles of my house bumps the number up to 15 or more (7 or so were Daytonas)..it surely is a record of some sort...years ago, there were as many as 17 AAR Cudas and T/A Challengers in our county, probably still a dozen or so locally owned Trans Am cars

Larry just think about all of the Daytona's that there were in Hancock county. Where we and Jones lived, and Scwatz (could be spelling his name wrong). And the biggest city in that area was greenfield, which had about 7-8000 people in the 80's.

I only know of one Yellow Bird that gets out at the occasional cruise night and the orange Bird at the Simeon museum. Im sure there others but Ive never seen them.
wingless now, but still around.

There are four Daytonas around here and maybe three superbirds. A small town 100 miles north of us has four 'birds in a population of 2000 +/-.  One of the Daytonas is a Hemi.

spin it back to 1970, and tally up the NEW ones running around a specific area.

Between the east side of Indy to New castle just going out 70, in the 70's you would have ran into around 25-30 Aero cars.

held1823

how many do you guys think were owned new in this area? i imagine that number is higher than average, especially when factoring in the population.

two daytonas and at least one superbird were brand new in new castle

good info about how they were allocated, but unrelated to where the cars ended up when sold.

neither of the two daytonas owned new in new castle were sold in new castle, although both were indiana cars; larry's came from noblesville, ours from rushville.

our car even came from a different state (IN) than where originally thought (WA) when that info was collected, didn't it?

I know of 2 500's that were sold new on the east side of Indy. One Q5 one T3 SE.

held1823

did they stay in the indianapolis area, danny?

as limited as the c500's and daytonas were, it wouldn't surprise me if people traveled a good distance to snag one

Not currently they are not.

q5 500 was one my dad had in late 70's to mid 80's. It's not in the US anymore.
T3 SE was also still on east side of Indy until mid 80's. No longer in this state either.

However I can say that I know of 12 500's that are currently in this state.

held1823

i meant were the original owners from the area, but i think i'm the only one in this thread with an eye on 1970.

everyone else's replies make perfect sense, since the thread isn't about how things were around here in 1970.

Grew up in a town with the population of 1200. As many as 8 wing cars within a 3 mile radius at one time. 7 have been there for 30 plus years.
