This is a good video of some night shooting, with great graphics, in arab lands. Watch the U.S. get some.

Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

At 2:00 I was yelling "It's a donkey!" thinking they were going to blow away two innocent animals :D

Seriously... watching things like that makes you wonder how they can ever hope of beating a modern military.

Using a Hellfire against a single guy though... doesn't seem very cost effective...  :shruggy:

I'll pay for some HF ordinance on a single tango if it keeps the bastard
from beheading innocents.

I agree.  What's an American life worth?

The Germans complained Americans wouldn't assault there positions.  They would just call in the artillery.
It's the "American Way". :patriot:

Some say death from above is cowardice i.e. 1st Air Cav

I say cutting an aid workers head off is the epitome of cowardice.  :Twocents:

There is no cowardice in modern day warfare when your enemy is the epitome of that. Overall, it is a point relayed to the enemy, we will stop you by any means necessary.  Imagine what other ISIS people are thinking are seeing this same video.  I would much rather have my tax dollars being wasted on warheads saving American lives than my tax dollars supporting a terrorist harboring country.

Good. Now they know what we spend the ransom money on.

Wasteful?  Yeah.

But at least we're making progress.

In Iraq and Afghanistan, U.S. forces have fired an estimated 250,000 rounds for every insurgent killed.

Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

moparnation74

In previous wars did they fire less?  Or waste less?  It is the cost of war, period!

Drache

I never said don't kill him. But think that the average cost of a 30mm round is about $20 a piece, most of those bursts were about $200 per burst from the cannon. Compare that to a Hellfire that costs about $60,000? For a single Isis soldier that could have easily been taken out from the second or third Apache helicopter there?  :shruggy:

Just saying, with a country that has the highest national debt in the world they may want to curt a few costs here and there  :nana:

For anyone who is tallying the cost, I guess the two big questions to ask yourself are A) if ISIS had Hellfires (or nukes) do you think they would hesitate for even a split second about using them on you?
And the biggie here, B) if you were captured by ISIS and they were about to behead your infidel ass, would you give one rats ass about how much a Hellfire was or how many rounds the US took to to kill each insurgent?
Does anyone believe the terror groups there are counting rounds per body?  Or do you think they are wondering how they can get their hands on a minigun or two (because thats where a LOT of that rounds per dead guy total ramps up).  Trust me, if they get Hellfires or any similar weapon system they WILL be firing them at Americans and they will NEVER whine about the cost.

moparnation74

There is more to this than mere bullets or warheads, in relation to cost.  What if you brought in tanks, troops, helicopters etc.  These guys were running around with RPG's that can blow up a 500k+ dollar tank, 500k+ apache, cost to wounded veterans, cost to families of lost ones.  I am sure there is more and more to list.  It is a much bigger picture than cost of ammunition and warheads.

At $20 / click, I wish they would sight the 30mm in a little better.

On a serious note, do hell fires and the like have a shelf life?

Actually you'd be surprised. Isis has a very thorough budget. Every dollar is counted for. Isis has a really small income and so they put what they have to use without wasting needlessly.

Take the Taliban for example with their IEDs. Most of the time they went off, it was to take out as many as the enemy in one blast. You don't set off a well placed IED to take out a single soldier out to take a piss. It would be the same for Nukes. You aren't going to drop a Nuke on a tent to kill 4 guys, you drop the damn thing on a city and take out millions.

If Isis had Hellfires of course they would use them against us, I never said they would. But they wouldn't be shooting one at a single person.

Now put that Isis soldier in a bunker or a building then firing a Hellfire at him would be cost effective.  :2thumbs:

They were using A-10's Warthog's if I am not mistaken.  They fly at low speeds and low altitudes, around 1K feet and 300knots hitting a moving target.  That is why they have to release a short blast of 30mm rounds when they site a target.  They have to.  It is basically similar to firing a bad azz round of buckshot!

But didn't it seem like it was always shooting well right of the sight?

Mike DC

These shots could be a $10 million bucks per round and it wouldn't even make a blip on our defense spending this year.

I can't really allow myself to think about the subject very long.  Too frustrating.

I'm just glad any time we actually hit a bad guy.

You also have to remember that their is the gunner and then the pilot. Add to that probably anywhere up to 2000 feet up in air while moving doesn't make for the most precise of shoot.  :icon_smile_big:
