I'm actually working on my rear pass. quarter glass on mine. I was curious on this topic as well because when I removed the glass from the channel track one of the bolts was broken off and the other was a PITA to remove without breaking the bolt. I guess this was very common for that to happen. There was the original rubber washer in there kinda beat up after all them tears. I would've thought that there would've been some sort of insert to accomodate the hole in the glass but there was not. Just a 3/16" thread dia. bolt with 7/16" hex head and the rubber washer. The rubber washer appears to be 1-1/4" dia. and the washer on the bolt is 1-1/8" dia. Pics below to better explain.

more pics..............

The 3rd pic is the other side showing the threads of the bolt protruding thru. This length of threads showing is the equivalent of the how the damaged bolt was which helped me out by putting vise grips on it and twisting it out that way. If it would've been flush then I would've had to drill and tap it out. However I had to apply some heat from my acetylene torches to free up the bolt before I could twist it out with vise grips. In doing so I melted some of the aluminum channel. Lesson learned, apply very little heat and be patient. I believe the channel is still usable.

As for the hole, the factory used a slice of radiator overflow hose to cusion the edges.

So this piece (red arrow) is just some rubber made from overflow hose material? Or is the rubber piece in addition of this piece (red arrow) :shruggy:

Thanks

tiki

thanks for all the info much appreciated, the red arrow looks like a plain rubber washer,im surprised theres no plastic incert like the door glass

tiki

i will check for the bolts one more time

The rubber hose is in addition to the fiber washers.

The quarter windows were attached with special 1/4-20 bolts with integral washers that had a slight cone shape to them. See photos above of the bolts.
In between the glass and the washer and on the mount bracket were two fiber washers. Usually they are deteriorated. You can pick up some neoprene rubber washers in the right diameter at the local hardware store that are a great substitute.
As charger-bodie stated above, the space in the hole was taken up by a piece of tubing similar to radiator overflow hose. A small piece of that hose will work perfectly. Place it in the hole in the glass, then insert the bolt thru it.  :2thumbs:

FYI, the vent window glass was also installed in a similar fashion at the chrome pivot area.  :Twocents:

you can use 30 lb felt paper [tar paper] if you double it up  and you need a piece of rubber to separate the glass from the bolt  make sure everything is free of debris and run the bolts in until they all touch then tighten them and not too tight or kaboom a million pieces

I couldn't find any sleeves to protect the glass when rolling up the window,so i came up with these grommets in the the holes in the glass, that with some fiber washers and its strong like bull!!!Thanks for everyone's help

It's not really that big of a thing what is is used in the hole as long as is it prevents the glass contacting the bolt.
