BIGGER rotors............BIGGER calipers!...............

Hey,
Im thinking about maybe going with bigger wheels on my 71 R/T,you know 17's ,18's,maybe even 19's.My question is,when are bigger rotors needed?If you go with a bigger rotor does that mean go to a bigger caliper as well?My car has factory front disc,I see a number of aftermarket kits for drum to disc,but what about if you are looking to go with bigger rotor,etc with a factory disc car?I see slotted disc often but I never see them in bigger sizes ....................any feedback would be appreciated!

Here is a setup that I've done for a few guys.  13 x 1.250 rotors with late model Viper calipers.  It will fit any B body car, any E body car and any A body car with the big upper ball joint.  This setup requires a 17 inch rim for clearance.

If you're into the Euro look then this is an option.  This is what I run on my '65 B body.  It is your basic Porsche 993 twin turbo setup.

When switching to bigger wheels & tires, the larger brakes aren't ever NEEDED in the strict mechanical sense.  The wheels will bolt on and the car will stop either way.  The bigger brakes are just something that the bigger wheels make possible, and they're a vital part of a true road-racer.

Running 18" rims with stock 70's brakes visible behind them . . . it's sorta like running a huge chromed 6-71 blower on top of a motor that's still breathing through the stock iron exhuast manifolds.  The stock 70's brakes will mechanically still function fine with the huge rims, but it marks you as a bit of a "poser" to put a car together that way.
