So i wondered around the junkyard (i posted earlier about it) and while others were hunting for parts, i was thinking..... "Which one of these are buildable"

Thats when out of the corner my eye i saw this thing....

I never saw a fastback torino before, so at first i thought i saw an australian Ford falcon coupe (theres a decent amount of vintage imports in the yard).. then i looked inside, noticed it was american and eventually a torino.

i came home, showed the pictures to an Australian friend i know online, And she also thought "Mad Max" so. i thought about it and realized.. I have all the parts i could ever want at my disposal to build an american version of the V8 Interceptor so i paid 100$ bought the shell, then got an s10 chassis, a mach 1 stang front clip and doors a semi truck fuel cel, a 71 ford galixie tail panel etc....

And althought its minimal, i've made progress... and to be honest.. ITS ALOT OF FUN, Roaming a junkyard and hauling the parts back to the car in a bunch of creative ways

If you ever get a chance to  build a car in a junkyard.. TAKE IT!!!

(Oh and before anyone asks, Yes it has a vin, yes it has a title)

Did you get bored with the Charger or did you finish it up and I missed it? Also do you have room for this one back at the house?

Why can't you insure it until 26?

I think he is looking for the cheap antique car insurance (I thought the magic number was 25 for that)
next project 70 Charger FJ5 green

Not only that (although 99% that) other companies will give the charger a 0$ value (because off all the modifications) and will write it off in any collision, and i've spent too much time, money and effort to agree to that. hagerty said they will gladly give it a 15,000$ value.. but i need 10 years driving experience, hence the age of 26  :flush:

You lucky, crazy dog. Keep up the good work!

A mad max / road warrior type build is on my bucket list, but I want it to be based on 3rd gen Charger hulk. So far, I have rescued a 6-71 blower case from the scrap yard...... not much else to report

that sounds cool, but im picturing whatever you build with the "Wheels of terror" Bumper treatment  that car would look cool with a blower and zoomies  :scratchchin:

Mid ta large mail box  with your front belt drive an top scoop   might make a smooth an cool shaker hood or engine topper????  off to races have the first 3 mad max---  warrior movies an a 73 ford falcon xb----    yellow  ----HOTWHEELS car,,,vroom-vroom,,,not max's...

neat project, there is a really falcon xb in dark blue around SUMNER wash, seen it a few times going down the road..      cooll build idea, roof an rear window look awsum ,best on build...     :popcrn: :popcrn: :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs:   DJ down west :D

Baldwinvette77

Im going to bolt the ... "blower".. thing to the top of the engine over the air clearner, with some simple brackets, that way it will rock side to side with the engine like in the movies.

And yeah, the torino with a mustang front end and doors is about as close to an xb falcon that america has to offer, the wheelbase is 6" longer, and the overall length is about 13" longer, im keeping the torinos longer wheelbase, but i chopped off 6 inches from the front, and 3 from the back to get the proportions closer, the falcon and torino actually have very similar widths.

as for wasteland weekend.. i haven't planned on that, but i do have an invite to Melbourne Australia

All green here, not like the desert scenes,
But you go for it baldwinvette ,
It's the last of the interceptors Max , the last of the big blocks , injected and blown fuel sucking terror on wheels,
But by all means keep working on the charger as well  :2thumbs:

I always thought an early 70s Javelin would make a good Interceptor-esque project. Tough to score one of those, though.

If you need it, I have a 70 Torino honeycomb tail cover and a pair of tail lamps.

Haha, YES, and i am goin to work on the charger aswell.. slowly, starting with a windshield so i can park it outside without it flooding to much

and once the 3 feet of snow is cleared from the junkyard, this project shall continue just as slowly

With the use of 2/4, nails 2 scissor jacks and beer, me and my dad lifted the body high enough to finally (mostly) get the body over the s-10 chassis, but the stupid ford engine is in the way, just like it always was  :rotz: , we might just push the body backwards, it would be easier...

and yes, i am still working on the Charger.. Its called "multitasking"  :whistling: and while i was there i picked up a slip yoke that will supposedly fit the viper t-56

Mmm  :coolgleamA:

also made a couple scoop things for the hood a while ago

IMO it's perfectly cool.

I've had that idea for years too - make a MM Interceptor using the front clip of a Mustang on a Torino body.

You can find/get a few real Aussie Falcons in the states but they are rare and right-hand drive.  A kit-bashed Mustrino seems like a much easier thing to put together & maintain here.

I'm not sold on the truck frame though.  More weight, less stiffness, and probably a lot of custom work.  Is a Torino unibody with tolerably solid framework really that much more expensive?  You still have to put full floorpans even in the custom job.

Baldwinvette77

Its pretty hard to find a solid 70-71 unibody in this region, every torino i looked at its rotted, and the sedans have different wheelbases.

my first idea was to find a nice coupe and splice this cars fastback roof onto it.

but the truck frame made more sense financially. it was 200$ has new rear suspension, ujoints rear brake lines, and its from an 85 s-10 so theres plenty of aftermarket  support for it

Baldwinvette77

So, i've been waiting for parts to arrive to finish the chargers clutch. But not wanting to waste time i decided to mess around with the pile of junk that will become this max mad tribute

so obviously im trying to do something that looks a bit like this

but since the new movie came out, and with the game in development i decided to add things that are taken from those worlds
like the steel mesh on the taillights, i liked the look of it, but it will also help disguise the 71 ford custom sedan lights

so the first thing i did was recess the taillights about a half inch so i can mesh over them.

and built this simple frame, that will be painted flat black ofcourse

i also rewelded the lower section of the impala bumper, but further apart and on an angle so it looks like a valence panel

Which, the torino? or the falcon with the louvers?  :scratchchin:

Baldwinvette77

I don't know if this is considered progress, since essentially i pushed a car out onto a driveway., But we moved the car from where it sat since 1981
to a spot much closer to the entrance to the yard, were power via extension cable is avalible, and just working on it in general will be easier. was a pretty cool experience, i've never been excited to have my car towed before

The Torino

Same, im actually having 2nd thoughts about cutting that out  :scratchchin:

anyway, brought up some stuff from home over to the car, partly to clean up the backyard, but mostly to see what this thing is gonna look like.

i couldnt bring the doors yet though, i was by myself, so aligning and bolting them on at the same time would have sucked. and well, there wasn't any room for them in the van anyway.

also found a license plate that expired in december 1966

Baldwinvette77

Through the miracle of tek screws i mounted mustang doors to a torino, the hinges are identical between the 70 torino and the 73 mustang, but they are closer together on the mustang so they don't line up, i suppose thats why we have welders

i also had to shorten the backs of the doors by 2 inches, but i was able to retain the latches.

next ill align the panels somewhat, then i can set the body up with the axles so it looks decent...ish.

After months of work, i finally created something thats basically a black version of this

RallyeMike

If the doors are bolted to the hinges and frames, that door to quarter fit isn't too bad considering your are mating to different cars. What's the plan - make the door fit the quarter, or the quarter fit the door?

Looks like i need to add to the tops of the doors and remove from the bottoms, but the quarters need repairs anyway, so maybe a little bit of both  :scratchchin:

Thanks!

i liked the fury road/ Road warrior versions best. i can't explain why, i just like the beat up look i guess.

But i have to agree, if you buy that complete blue 70 torino, it would be better to do a tribute to the first movie since you have an interior and all the glass etc.  :scratchchin:

also im in ontario

the engine in mine was a 302 windsor btw
