Selling my Charger and the buyer needs my advice.

I'm selling one of my project cars and they buyer needs some advice. My car is a 69 Charger R/T,440 auto, matching # motor, fender tag and two build sheets with new  B5 paint. It's a rust free car with driver quality paint and interior.   Car is partially apart for the paint process and ready to start putting chrome and etc back on. Currently the motor is freshly machined and ready to assemble, tranny is ready to install. I agreed to get the engine built and installed, rear end restored, k frame and front suspension installed and grill painted. I think we have agreed on a fair price. He will help me some and learn some things in the process. The upgrades he want to make are his big decision. I don't have a problem upgrading to some good disc brakes all around. I have  friend who put Wilwoods on his car and he was not happy. Is there a better choice? Now he is talking about upgrading the suspension with all kinds of parts just like a Charger he saw on ebay. It had coil overs in the rear with some kind of ladder bars and the front had coil overs and a rack and pinion steering. IT looked like it had to have some fabrication and welding to make it right.  That is not something I really want to do and I am not familiar with the products he is looking at. He does not want to hurt the value of a matching numbers righteous Charger R/T. He is not really capable of doing it by himself and I don't need a big project that will take fabrication on my part. Is there a bolt on upgrade out there that would be easy for me to install and still give him a better ride?

I wouldn't get involved anymore than what you originally agreed on. Are you paid in full or will you get paid later?

What if he's not happy with the outcome? What if you do the mods and a weld breaks on his ride home?  He buy's the car from you and you write up what your willing to do and what he's going to help with and no more.

I would personally find a buyer that wants it the way it is and not be married to this guy.

It sounds like the buyer you are talking about has not found what he is looking for.
If you want to build a car to his spec. and hope he likes it you are making a mistake.---AKA a very bad idea---

If you sell him the car as is and help him with what he want's the car to be that should be a separate deal after the initial sale is complete.
Question---are you willing to get into the resto business aside from selling this car?

I'd let him upgrade the brakes and learn.  And to have something to compare, i.e. the old vs. new.  Or let him find out how much a shop will charge him.  Same with all the other stuff.  Make a clean break asap.

Point out to him bolt ons can be reversed,
I don't see the need for a four link set up , for the street
If the rear springs have not been upgraded, talk him into that , a set of caltracs , add rear sway bar
Good to go , and all are able to be reversed back to stock

What you see is what you are buying
Yes put it together good enough so it will roll on a trailer but that is it

If you have to do all this other stuff first you might as well finish the car off the way you were originally were going to build it then try to sell it
You would have lots more wanting to buy it in that condition

A clean break would be best, but you can get a fair amount of improvement out of a Charger without having to go with irreversible changes....more than enough for street use.  Auto cross/track use that's a different story.  But for the street:

New front expendable parts: bushings (Rubber/Poly), Ball joints, pitman/idler arm, tie rods (ends, solid centers)
Front sway bar: Add one/different diameter.
Torsion Bars:  Bigger/correct diameter
Lower control arms: Stiffening plates.  Greasable.
Upper control arms: Tubular/Adjustable for additional caster
Shocks: Adjustable (single/double). There is a world of performance shocks out there
Steering box: Firm Feel type kits/Boregeson (sp?) units
Brakes: Various sizes and styles depending on tires.  Hydro boost is also an option for power steering/low vacuum cars

Rear sway bar: Add one/different diameter. Some kits do require welding
Rear springs: Re-arch, replacement springs, add a leaf, cal tracs, ladder bars.
Rear shocks: Same as the front.
Rear brakes: Drum conversion kits available.

Personally, I'd build it dead nuts stock given that info. 
Or, sell it as-is in an unfinished state & let the next buyer screw with it.

A)  I would NOT get involved in hacking up a car for someone else that you still own because...
B)  It is most assuredly going to hurt the value especially of a numbers matching RT which...
C)  Means he ends up defeating one of his stated purchase wants and if he changes his mind and doesn't take the car you are stiffed for it all

Thanks for all the input. I really don't want to get into a long, drawn out restoration either. If that was the case, I would finish it and just put it on ebay.  As most of you know most project cars are a little hard to sell because of the fear of all the missing parts that scare a potential buyer off.  This guy is local so that is not a problem, with all the extra charger parts I have. I have not responded to the charger wanted adds because I just do not have the car close to being together. I think it would be an easy sell completed. I think I will tell him that I will get the car rolling with all the stock stuff and he can finish it up. I may loose a sale but oh well. I really don't want to post the selling price on the open forum, but if you PM me, I'll tell you and that might help with the decision. BTW, Id get all the $$$ up front before I started job.

If your getting all the money up front, why not ?  You can make even more money helping him out and make more money playing on a Charger. It's a win, win to me.

while I would be only to pleased to offer advice & help out if I can ! being paid or  FOC   , I see this situation , is like opening a can of worms , imo  would  not get involved  ,
