Spelling is Govier.

Still selling cars in Indiana per moparts.

Though he's not listed at the Masterpiece website.  :shruggy:

The gentleman who ran Masterpiece has past away. I'm not sure if the business has continued in his absence, or has been sold.

I met him in 2002.  He seemed just fine then :shruggy: ;)----so twelve years from then??   --Lot's can happen in one year let alone 12.
It seems that he has felt a loss in the respect that he built in his early years with the hobby. As to what all the factors are that made it so???
I am the last one to speak on that.
One thing I have learned is that when one builds a reputation it comes from hard dedicated work.---a passion--- That doesn't happen because of a forward look at how things may turn out.
Maybe he just doesn't want to deal with the sharks anymore. :Twocents:

I do like the term "they will not be down for breakfast" ---It just feels respectful--

Galen did a very good reputation in the business but in the early days he cared about the hobby and relied heavily on many others in the hobby to accumulate "his" knowledge.  When the market exploded about ten years ago he suddenly didn't have time for anyone who wasn't a high roller.  And not just that he was busy making money off the high rollers, his persona changed too, he really did not have time for the lesser cars.

1970Moparmann

I met him at the Mopars on the Mississippi event a few years back - he was a complete ass...... I brought my 68 Coronet RT Rag and I wasn't even parked yet and he ran up to me and told me to "park it" and "open the hood".  I had no clue who this jack bag was until a few minutes after he left when I asked "who is that ass".    Funny how that was the last full Mopar event I have been to. :nana:

This one? Nice car.
Seeking information on '69 St. Louis plant VINs, SPDs and VONs. Buld sheets and tag pictures appreciated. Over 3,000 on file thanks to people like you.

Wasn't there a whole think about how he supposedly "signed off" on a car saying it was real and there was some shady aspect to it that it might not be 100% legit? I remember reading that either here or moparts, can't remember.  :shruggy:

I also remember more than a few people talking about him LEANING on people's cars to get pictures of their fender tags or reaching into people's cars and removing items placed over VIN tags just so he could get a picture, all without asking of course.

There was a dust up a few years ago with him at a Mecum auction.  I think a car was pulled from the auction and he was asked (told?) to leave.  He actually ended up posting on moparts about it...the thread then exploded with various Galen stories/bashing/etc.

Reminds me of another PERSON I ment at a swap meet two years ago, one big snob. I got the feeling, from reading between the lines, in his last report, he gets a finders fee when someone sells a car. :Twocents:.

Galen was at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals in Chicago a few weeks ago.    He regularly posts on Facebook as "Galen Mopar".

He still owes me a window sticker for the Superbird that i paid for years ago....  :flame: and my fender tag he re popped for our hemi Coronet has the wrong radio code..  :brickwall: but he knows his stuff. I met him in person years ago in a hotel lobby one morning we sat together for a bit. We gave up after many attempts to contact him with no luck.

This one? Nice car.

Negative - here is the picture of the two together.

For the Galen story... Galen was talking to the owner of a mint white 68 hardtop Coronet RT, and wanted to show him that there were two "tabs" off the radiator support which his car needed.   I'm pretty sure the owner at that time of the car is a forum member.  Might be the one who bought Brian's Daytona clone a few years back.

I remember that mopar bashing thread, it got nasty fast! That's why I hardly ever go to that site, those people are just mean

I had no opinion of GG until he showed up over on the Moparts board and announced he was there to set everybody straight on all matters Mopar. He didn't last long there.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

It also helped when someone accused him of touching their car without permission (he popped the hood of someone's car to take a picture of the fender tag) and flat out said he's allowed to touch anyone's mopar to get the documentation he needs (to sell of course).

I haven't seen him for several years and I'm not certainly Galen's biggest fan but I know he lost his first wife several years ago.  Last time I talked to him he was getting remarried.  I know that a life changing experience like that can shift priorities, and attitudes.  I don't have any idea what's going on with him now but I'm willing to cut him some slack.

I never did get a response to my request that he decode the 74 Charger 2 barrel 318 car I used to have...
