Do you keep a detailed binder for your Charger?

I used to be more organized.
I kept service records, receipts and notes on almost everything.
Now? Not so much.
I do keep downloaded tech articles. Magazine reprints. Catalogs to retain part numbers and various tech tips.
A buddy of mine that is otherwise a convoluted mess, has a binder with almost every modification he has done well drawn and detailed to his Challenger.
I do have notebooks with handwritten text. I've written about every nut, bolt or screw that I have touched. Engine builds, tuning, brakes, suspension... everything. This helps keep me from trying stuff that didn't work before. It also serves as a blueprint as to what actually has worked in the past.
What about you guys/gals ?

Yep. invoices, parts "tuned" up, photos on how-to-do's, to do list, wish lists, etc.  :yesnod:

Hey...you somehow "figgered out" how to fit a bulky 518 in the car, right?  :2thumbs:

I do not write out what I have done, but I do keep all of the receipts.  Receipts are very valuable if you ever have a total loss insurance claim (fire or theft) in which the car isn't there to prove it's condition.  Plus, if I ever was forced to sell the car the receipts would prove to the buyer what has been done.  Especially if I was killed and my family had to sell it off.    :Twocents:     :shruggy:

Going on 21 years worth of receipts and other miscellaneous documents filed in a rather large expand-o file (it's fairly substantial now).  Its to the point where it needs to be organized better and some of the detritus needs to be hoed out.  If somebody were to total all of the receipts up, the number might be fairly unsettling.

Yes, I keep folders with receipts and info on every car I own. Just recently saved myself a couple hundred bucks because I had kept the lifetime warranty receipts on some parts when Autozone couldn't find them in their system. They finally admitted they changed computer systems and "some" records were lost.  :brickwall:

Even better than that, I recently had the transmission in my truck replaced under warranty from Aamco. It had died in 2010 coming back from the Mopar Nats. Rebuild cost me $2500 and I paid another $700 for a lifetime warranty on the rebuilt trans. It made it seven years and 90K miles and died the week of Christmas. I had kept all my paperwork and kept up the annual inspections, saved me a good chunk of change at Christmas.

I keep receipts on each car and detailed notes on bigger projects like my 4 speed swap and the 392 Hemi swap I did in the Cuda.  I have found this not only helps me when I have questions or need a reference, but can be great info answering questions and helping others too.

I have a binder for every car I own. Dates that repair/mods were made, expenses, etc.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

yeah , well I use to , when I first got the charger 28 years ago  , all  parts receipts etc  , I would store them neatly in a box folder thingy ,  use to pretty much keep in in order  too ! , then I started just  stuffing all the parts & materials receipts , in there !  when I was doing the nut & bolt resto / rebuild &  continued to stuff receipts in there  ever since  ....

I've always had a file folder for my cars. The current Bee restoration I log hours and minutes that I'm putting into the work. Nothing new for me as I log the same way building airplanes for customers.

We keep a file folder for each car and I do stuff some Charger things in there from time to time, but certainly not every single receipt. Doesn't hurt to do so though.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

I went through mine after having the car about 10 years. I found receipts for quarts of oil, a light bulb, radiator hose....THEN I started tossing out junk. Who needs to keep a record of the spark plugs for the 318 I yanked out???
I do keep receipts but only stuff pertaining to non maintenance items. I keep a journal type log notebook in which I detail everything I do except for fill ups and washing. If I adjust tire pressure, I record it. Valve lash. Ignition timing. Jet sizes. If I notice a squeak, I write it down so if it goes away on its own, I'll expect it again. The simple act of writing stuff down somehow cements the memory in place. I can often recite the specs from memory now. THis will help if I keel over and the wife sells the car. She will not be fooled by some buyer trying to get the car for 1/2 its value.

alfaitalia

The VERY LAST thing I will be doing is keeping a record of the expenses......firstly I don't really want to know. I buy all my parts for cash and have managed to not use my credit card at all for nearly two years now....so as long as I can afford the parts as I go along I don't want to be frightened by the total!!. Secondly...what if my wife finds out what I'm spending???....the Charger and its lock up could become my house!!!
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you !!

The previous owner of my Charger owned it since the 80s, and gave me a large binder full of notes, parts receipts, etc..., I've been adding to it as I do stuff to the car.  Kinda neat to look back on it's history to see what was done and when, hopefully I can add (at least) another 30 years to the binder.

I do, but it is slowly transitioning to my Wheelwell site. Very Slowly.

I keep receipts for non maintenance stuff, invoices for any work I've had done like for my custom center console.  I have sections for receipts, invoices, specs, drawings and some photos from car shows I've gone to with my daughter who is now 6.  The car is going to her when she's older and the binder will go with it.  She can thumb through it and see old photos of her and I from when she was little with the car.  :2thumbs:

I don't. I don't really want to know how much I spend on these cars.  :shruggy: :D
