When people who all they know is modern cars and their sounds!!!  Had this happen again the other day people who think im shifting at 6k rpm or something because my car is so loud when in reality im shifting at 2k rpm to save gas.  They think im racing them or something when they are freaking shifting at 6k rpm themselves......

end my rant...

JB400

What exhaust system do you have?

1974dodgecharger

flow master 40 series 3inch piping all the way back.....so NO not loud per say...

Funny! You know several new cars use audio enhancement to make the car's engine sound cooler.

The new Mustang has this feature for their Ecoboost 4 cyl.

Ghoste

That must be the "boost" portion.

It's annoying sometimes.  Loud cars make people think you're gunning it.

I've had people gripe at me for speeding through a neighborhood when I was barely going 25 mph.

Shakey

Heard recently that some manufacturers have the option of the exhaust tone to be sent through the audio system in the car.

Not sure if it was the Mustang or a German OEM.

BMW has been known to do it.  It wouldn't surprise if Audi does it as well.

Roctania

Cheap old hot rodder's trick- use your stereo to play badass engine sounds and squealing tires, if your car cannot otherwise.

What I hate, is that Harley-Davidson owners can run mufflers that will wake the dead, but if you drive a musclecar that sounds that loud the police are not so forgiving......

One man's "not loud" is another man's TOO LOUD.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Have experienced that myself, boy were they pr's...

If anyone here watches Top Gear UK, I believe it was 2 series or so ago; there's a hot hatch out there that has a library of different vehicles to choose from that will resonate that vehicles specific exaust sound through the stereo.

wernt there a  some kind of device  like that , it would plug into the cigarette lighter &  picks up the  pulses from the alternator  , & converts that into a selection of engine sounds !! through your car radio speakers  , sure it was guys in Oz invented it

you guys gotta bullsh--in me about this sound device on modern cars time for google...and youtube videos.

ws23rt

I think there are many possibilities with those high power audio systems that would be good fun.  The sound of a locomotive for example.
I recall being next to a little plain car in LA once.  The low freq. power from his system his made his windows blur and I swear I could see the sheet metal shake.
Maybe the new thing for a while would be to play the sound of a Hellcat with the super charger singing.
My opinion about this sort of thing is it's part of having fun. (hydraulic bouncing cars are another that bring a big smile and an appreciation for the effort to play with our cars).
The other side is stuff like this should be used in the right place and the right time.  The open pipes of a Harley (for example) are no problem for me unless the rider insists on cracking the throttle just to let everyone within a 1/4 mile know they are their.  It's just plane inconsiderate chest thumping. :Twocents:

Yeah, the did see that TopGear episode! Was pretty cool for your daily driver...I could handle listening to my Lola  scream on the way to work.

I believe BMW has been doing it for the last decade.

Prolly thought it was a newer Charger because of the rims... :yesnod:

Similar to what I had happen. I had a 71 satellite, bored 383, tunnel ram, 4.30 gears, etc.  and I did a small burnout leaving my friends house and saw this guy standing on his lawn staring at me so I knew something was up.  I also wasn't going that fast - probably around 35-40.   I turned around went home and pulled the car in my parents garage closed the door and a minute later the cops came down my road.  I found out a few days later the cops were out looking for me.

Pretty lame that engine noise could be sent thru the sound system!

wingcar

So we have engine noise playing through the stereo....what's next....a poster picture of an engine (such as a HEMI) covering the real engine?

I used to have one of those :).  Actually traded it for the body and paint work on the Charger.

Had a build 355 SBC, w/ an 87 Buick Grand National 8-3/4 342 rear end...  Turned it into the complete package.  :2thumbs:

Haven't you seen the Lambo and Ferrari kit cars with the plastic "Engine Cover"?
