Im thinking of having Julius restore a 69 RT.
What are everyone's thoughts on whether a resto by Julius adds value to a Charger?
He's the best I hear from you all.
thanks!

I don't know if it adds much value by name over many other equally fine restorers but it will no doubt add by virtue of being very well done.

Unless it says "Hemi" on the side and has a manual transmission you'll be upside down by a long shot from a "value" standpoint. And possibly even then...

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

In today's world, even if it said "HEMI" on the side and had a 4-speed, you would still be upside down!  It cost me near 6 figures to rotisserie restore mine, including the 727 (did it ourselves) and the engine (professionally done) and my friend did all the paint-work himself.  With us buying the paint (single-stage enamel), it still took many, many hours of prepping and sanding to get ready for paint.

I used almost 4 gallons of paint to paint the Charger inside and out, top to bottom (amateurs being amateurs, we had to redo a few spots) and many hours of work and still spent around 4K or more with my friend already having most tools and a $700.00 spray gun to do the job!  Got to say though, it looks "Fabulous" in person! Pictures just do not do it justice! The R6 Red just pops, especially in sunlight!

I had the power steering pump and steering box rebuilt along with new rubber hoses installed on the original end fittings and both original carbs restored professionally. Both bumpers and the original air cleaner cover re-plated. Lots of small things to do (re-plate all originally plated surfaces and nuts and bolts for starters), and it all just adds up. Just about everything on my car was rebuilt or bought brand new. I do not want to ever add up my receipts! Ha !!

Very good points.  Very true!

Same for me.  No desire to total the receipts.

Just like you and Carl, I have a stack of receipts, but that all it is, a stack............... Like going to Vegas; money spent is the price of entertainment... But, in this case, the price for passion.......

Its a 69 Hemi alright, a 4 speed.
At lest it'll hold some value ---if I do it.
The car's at his shop in prep.

People will have at least respect because Julius is well known.
And does excellent restoration work.

Good luck and expect it to cost at least double what you estimate it will. Mine did with a pretty informed estimate before starting it. Just the nature of the beast!

By the way, does it have the original drivetrain?  Who will handle the engine rebuild?  Both of these are significant value/cost factors to be considered.

Remember, everything necessary for your rebuild of your Charger that the shop has to buy will cost you his markup also. that said, his restorations are always top-notch.

This would be an excellent time to post some pictures.  :Twocents:

Didn't you mention something about this car in another thread?

As others stated lets see some pics!!!!!!!

Is that the one listed for $125k on his website?  Seems like yes but thought I would confirm.  Surprised he doesn't have pictures - hard to sell without them to non-locals

No Pics?  So is this his car undergoing restoration to be sold in the future?
Replacement block.  Just depends on how bad you want a hemi 4spd versus how deep underwater you will be.

jww426

I think its a lot for a replacement block car.
That being said, its T7 bronze with tan top and you can choose your own interior.
I would do white interior with a white stripe, T7 steelies, painted.
But it would be a perfect and crispy fresh resto.

Hi JWW,

I can vouch for Julius, a proper Mopar Guy, excellent all round work!
I've known him for over ten years, he is easy to deal with and straight as a arrow!
His bodywork guys are the best in the West and his knowledge is outstanding.
He's been there, done it, got the T-shirt.

No shade-tree work, no tall stories, just the Job, done and dusted.

You certainly get what you pay for!!! :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

Its not always about the COST its more about VALUE FOR MONEY.
Sure ther's cheaper, we all know what cheap gets LOL!!! :eek2:

Julius is one of the best in the business, total respect from 500Jon.

I normally hold my opinion on other people/companies.....but ........Based on the many examples of the work I've seen - I wouldn't send him a model kit to paint.
Painted over non-repaired, smashed rad and lower rad support on a full resto, enough dirt in the paint to grow corn.....are just a few examples.

Hi Maxwellwedge.

I'm shocked at your reply indeed!
Maybe a slight exaggeration here and there, but we are all entitled to our own opinions.

Sorry to hear this about a fine fellow like Julius!
Standards may have dropped or others are just much higher.

Best thing is to do the work yourself, like I do.
Then its done to my standard and I'm happy.........

Maybe one car Julius does is nice & the other is painted over bent up core support because one guy paid $125k & the other guy only wanted to pay $25k for his resto. Does Julius only do $125k jobs or does he also do low budget garbage if somebody only wants to pay for low budget garbage? LEON. :scratchchin: :shruggy:
