Idles like a can full of rocks! Love it!
Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

Dale Reed is a badass! He is the engine builder. I am going to have him build my 440!

Is there any market for a '63 426 wedge ?  Mine still runs, but I don't know if is a Max wedge.

Ghoste

Small market for the regular head ones, they were so overshadowed by the max that too many people don't give them a chance.  Easy enough to tell if its a max with casting numbers, do the heads have unusual manifolds or the ports in an odd position?

We have 600 C.I. small blocks now....426 C.I.? Market? Street wedge? Doubt it when pistons for it will cost about double what 440 pistons do.

My 426 has had the original intake manifold removed and a now has a after market aluminum one on it. There are two holes in my hood (opposite sides) from where the dual carbs were.  My 70 Charger has a "6 pack hood scoop" on it.

Are the ports in the stock location or are they relocated?

Umm . . . what?

Surely the raw bore spacing makes that impractical.  I suppose people can build tall-deck aftermarket blocks & give it a 3-foot stroke, but that doesn't do anything about the valve size limitations.

No they look to be the original ports.

Ghoste

I don't think it a Max Wedge then, I believe they all have relocated ports on them.  John Kunkel has (or has had) Max Wedge cars though so I would bet he'd know for sure.

No Biggie, But Relocated Ports ?  It still runs like a champ.

@ 2.300 and 1.900 respectively, I don't thinkvalve size will be a problem. Especially with 4.500" bores.

Because of the port size in the max Wedge heads.

More or less in the stock location but enlarged. Max Wedge gasket on a standard head.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

That thing in the article has a 1" taller deck, 1/2" longer bore spacing, and the camshaft is raised too.  They came up with a new, more expensive & difficult way to make a big-block.

It brings to mind the huge LA motors that our hobby is building with the repro iron 340 blocks.

If the result is as heavy as a BB, it needs the intake/oil pan/heads/etc stacked as high as a BB to flow, and it needs aftermarket everything to make all this happen . . . umm, can someone explain to me how this is improving on a regular BB?
