Doesn't look that bad to me , ? Get some of that paint of latch
Especially the top plastic slider, acts as a cushion on closing,
I would have a real go at adjusting it , one step at a time  you will know if you go the wrong way
Does the door hold closed , latch part works properly ?

don't mean any offence  ,   are you sure its a latch ? ,  does the door drop when you open it ?  being driver door , its not worn hinge pins , is it ??

I was thinking the same thing.
Remove it, soak it in thinner or a good wash in the parts washer to get rid of all that excess paint & stuff. You can manipulate all the moving parts on the latch in your hand once it's clean. If everything appears OK, give the moving parts a coat of fresh grease & put it back in the door. If anything is still frozen, sticking, etc then start looking for a replacement. I thought I saw some being reproduced, but if you can't find any used ones should be very easy to find.
Once in the door you can adjust the striker on the jamb.

thanks for the tips guys ......door closed beautifully and then suddenly after all windows had been adjusted ,it closes but when fully closed the door still needs to be pushed approx one and a half inches for it to be fully closed and flush with the other panels .

I did check the fit with new door  rubbers in case they caused resistant ( they were on the car before the problem started) but pretty sure not the case.Panelbeater checked for pin drop but could be a combination of both and not just noticing .Just weird how it suddenly started doing it. Am I missing something  :brickwall:

Don't take offence too easily either any suggestion I appreciate and will have a look at , just appreciate advise and hey it might help someone else with the same issues

When you say windows were adjusted, does this mean they were added to door after it was closing great ?,
If so the extra weight of all that hardware will make door hang lower ,
It will just need to be lifted at hinges , try the bottom one ,
Get down at eye level with door to see if its hanging lower than quarter
Post some photos ?

Dino

Remove the latch and gently push the door closed, if you find any binding before it lines up with the adjacent panels then focus on realignment before you do anything to that latch, except cleaning it.  Always test the panel alignment with the latch removed first so you know exactly what's going on.

All the windows were in the door I just coudnt get them lined up properly still drip rail rubbers were the only thing I added and it doesn't appear as if they are binding . :shruggy:
Will suggest what you said thanks and if no joy
I will probably take out the latch and see how it lines up

Drip rail moldings......the bain of my existence.    :rotz:

Remove them and see if your doors work again.     :scratchchin:

going to try that in the morning....just in case I need  a back up  :icon_smile_question:
amazing , I cant seem to find any new or reproduction ones for sale any ideas on where else to search ....surely someone makes them new?

ebay has some second hand ones does anyone know of dodge charger 1968 to 70 door latches are the same ...really need to get sorted out before xmas if I have to get something posted from overseas

Dino

I don't believe these are being reproduced.  I've never seen one anyway.  68-70 are the same.

I could have sworn I saw these repro at a vendor booth at Carlisle.  :scratchchin:

'68's might possibly be different, due to the difference in the lock rod.  :scratchchin:

You're right, they may be different for 68.

I'm referring to the  repo rubber moldings.....you guys talking about something else?

The repos rubbers aren't shaped the way they should be, and I ended up using my originals to get the glass to fit right.

I bought the AMD hinges and don't like them.  They look funny, they work just don't like the look.

On the door closing issue, since the last thing you did was adjust the windows then that's where I'd start.  If the windows are not adjusted properly the door may not close right.  Another  :Twocents:

Also agree that the hinges may have moved, leaning on the door and moving the windows could have pushed the hinges out of place.  Look closely for the interference.  You've probably done this all, just throwing out ideas.

Take the Stryker out & see how it closes. The glass may be adjusted to high & binding with rubber? LEON. :shruggy: :scratchchin:

Ok time to put the windows down until you get the door to shut properly,
I thing at a time , get the door to close properly , once you have that done , the concentrate on adjusting the windows
