My '68 is slowly coming along (added some updated pictures for context) , I just installed a set of 2" tti headers (with a 3.5 collector). I also installed a Cheetah  turbo action shifter yesterday, the transmission hard lines need to be reran since the cable is now in the way, space is getting tight down there overall.

Since it has a 2800 convertor I am thinking something like a Derale cooler with a fan and braided lines might be nice, anyone run something like this? and if so, where did you locate it? I'd like to keep the lines as far from the headers possible(the trans lines now are right under the header).

Just looking for some ideas and appreciate your input

Dana.....COOL!
I mounted my trans cooler in front of the radiator and mounted it with bar stock. The radiator is a Griffin with no trans cooler ports so I did this as an afterthought. No problems with burned ATF in 13 years.

Very nice love the color scheme of the car :yesnod: That being said i bought a cooler for a motor home because the car had a aluminum radiator in it and had no cooling ports. My car is only a 318 but i had the trani shop install it when they redid the trani  this is what they did. They ran trani line to the front of the car just out of view in this picture and used hose to do the rest. it works well so far.

Thanks!

Its tight under there, I thought about going up front with the cooler (following the same path as the hardlines) but thought it may generate to much heat. Then I was thinking about going the other way..back towards the trunk. I'll have the snap a picture everything is in the way.

Mine had all hose when i bought it not recommended. You wont have any issues with heat where the stock lines go .If you are concerned you can use a heat wrap in the areas you are concerned about  it will be fine. I had a 69 camaro that had a built turbo 400 in it that had a 3500 stall converter and same set up and never had an issue.

Because mine is an AC car , with condenser already in front of radiator,
So put two long ones down in opening to front valance , to take advantage of that air flow that comes through there
Between front bumper irons,
Some available bolt mount points with a little fabricating work for mounting Brkts
The idea was not to block any more air flow through radiator

Keith88,
How did they get the air to bleed out of your cooler? With the trans lines coming in from the bottom that cooler is probably half full of air. The lines are supposed to come in to the cooler from the top, or the sides. When side mounted the inlet line to the cooler should be on the bottom to let the air push up and out.

I have the same cooler as Keith, mine is mounted between the radiator and A/C condenser coil. I am not using the little built in trans cooler inside the radiator. Run hard line all the way from tranny to the cooler if you can. The hoses are not very reliable these days. I had hoses burst on me after only 1 year on the car. Those hoses were even labeled for transmission fluid. I ran hard line all the way after that trailer ride home.

Well 1st i didn't do it, when i had the trani done the shop did it than. The whole system is under pressure all they really had to do is crack the line at the trani and bleed the air out much like a brake line. And yes you want to run as much line as possible..but you should put some sort of crimp at the end and double clamp the hose part. I put a flare on the end of my line and clamped behind that to help hold the hose from being blown off. :Twocents:
