Sorting through my pile of parts I notice I have 2 different styles of 70 hoods

Anyone have a Charger with the hood that has no ribs ?

I did a search on this forum but there was not much info on it for Chargers (some talk of Daytona)

The no rib hood is a little soft in the middle of the front bulk head

I noticed when taking the pictures that there was a wire clip that looked like it would hold the hood blinker wire
After looking closer the no rib hood does not have the extra hole in the webbing closer to the windshield to get the blinker wire back out if it was fed through the channel

Is that a side pipe I see?

Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

Yup that's a rare hood.  Daytona's didn't have the molded strengthening ribs because they used early stampings of '70 style hoods.

You can't say never on stuff like this because some people claim no rib hoods were installed on early production 1970 Chargers.  It's probably an issue of an engineering revision with some early cars being built with non-revised parts? Stuff that happened back then would never happen now because a simple change like this would require new crash testing certifications.

Ribbs? Can someone clarify?  :scratchchin:

Man that is a nice surprise before the holiday! :2thumbs:

Neal, if you look at the inner bracing between the front edge of the hood and where the latch bolts up you will see "ribs" stamped in the front area. Daytona hoods were smooth, and did not have the ribbing. Look closely at the photos of the two hoods.
Supposedly, early '70 Charger hoods did not have the ribbing as well? Can someone clarify that also?  :scratchchin:  :popcrn:

Whatever the case, the smooth versions are uber-rare. Great find!!  :2thumbs:

early 70 hoods didn't have the holes for the turn signal wires either

Here's a picture showing the ribs.

Daytona Guy

I have seen the ribs rub on the Daytona latch tray, but then again, I have heard from some Daytona owners where the ribs did not rub.

The yellow hood looks like a 70 Charger hood that had the ribs removed.
There are a few more differences than just the ribs.   :Twocents:

Need to see a clear photo of the entire bottom half of the hood in question.   :popcrn:
I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

NICE FIND!
Is there paint on the OP's hood, it looks like FT6 a '70 color?

Are there hood pin holes?  No hood pins  - not originally a Daytona hood.  :scratchchin:

No hood pin holes

I never said it came off a Daytona

Just wondering if the early batch of the 70 hoods made up for the Daytona had some left overs that made it onto 70 Chargers but could still be the same hood as on the 69 Daytona ??????

I guess I wasn't clear.  :icon_smile_blackeye:

If it has NO hood pin holes & it appears (to me from the pic posted) to be FT6 - a '70 color ..... then it is an early '70 Charger hood which (for all practical purposes) is a '69 DAYTONA hood & based on condition, worth a pile of $$$$.
