BTW, sidenote, I saw a turbine car running thru the showfield a few years back at Carlisle. Cool car, very unique sound.      I did not know there might have been plans to drop one in a Charger.    Learn something new every day on this board!

The museum had two and sold one to Leno.  I think there is one in the Detroit art museum and a couple of others out there (duh, with those three that only leaves two  )  To my knowledge anyway.

That's what rings a bell with my memory.  I recall seeing a photo of one or two in zip lock baggy type things and the other went to Leno.
I also have some foggy memories from when they came out. (or were about to). I was not quite ready to drive but dreamed about the smooth whine as being so cool and advanced not mention that the fuel choices were not limited to gas.

I certainly understand about......liability, costs to store, and the attitude at the time......"it's served it's purpose, we're done with it, clean the place up and get rid of it".


But I can't even begin to comprehend the amount of cool stuff that went on back then. At least it would be cool now. Wish more could have been saved. Look at the debate over in the areo section about race areo's.....and right here on this thread......look at the amount of   over what the mail guy may or may not have seen.

No intention to restart that .....it just makes a good example......NO ONE at the time, would have ever dreamed years later we'd be debating it here.


Just imagine.....if Chrysler had simply stored waste paper such as, memo's, plans, notes, engineering drawings, etc......in a big warehouse......how many of us would volunteer to go and help sift thru it?


Again....just wish more of it could have been saved.

Sadly it's not just an automotive "thing".  For those of us into aviation can only look at wonder in the pictures of thousands of no longer needed or wanted aircraft that ended their days in the various storage fields such as Kingman, awaiting to be scraped.  (Kingman actually planned to save one B-17 for display and somehow never got around to pulling one aside).  Today few of these aircraft survive, and in fact some aircraft earmarked for the Smithsonian were even melded down and no longer exist.
   
And, while the reasons may be different for "scrapping" our history between government and private companies the end result is still the same....nothing for future generations to look upon, other than pictures.

I'm very interested in history......maybe consider the analogy as a "major" in Mopar......and minors in aviation, and rail/trucks/ships......anything transportation.

It's sad that so much has been lost. Internet is a great resource for pic's.....it's just that there is no substitute for seeing in person.

It was the Bronze one borrowed from the Museum for our car club at the time in the early 1990's (HPAC).  Trust me, it's was not worth the hype.
