Looks REAL GOOD!  :2thumbs:
Keep the pics coming!  :popcrn:

MxRacer855

Thanks!

Here's some pics of the K-member and front suspension being removed just before paint.

MxRacer855

All finished. Now time to get sprayed, then throwing the new Reilly Motorsports AlterKation kit on it!  :icon_smile_big:

Power rack and 12.19" Wilwood drilled and slotted rotors.

Jeff, I'm having difficulty locating replacement rear bumper bracket bolts w/ retainers. Did you replace yours or simply clean them up?

You're doing a great job!

Homerr

Wow, nice work.    :2thumbs:

I can relate to the snowball effect!

I just cleaned them up. I found nearly identical retainers at Ace Hardware. As far as the bracket bolts themselves... there's a guy who may have them. Check R/T Specialties. I know he reproduces or stocks OEM Mopar bolts. A few members on here shot me over to his direction before.

Thanks Homerr!  :2thumbs:

Welded some metal in to close the holes where the front struts protrude through the inner fender wall and into the engine bay.

The new Reilly Motorsports Kit with the coil overs don't use that.

:2thumbs:

Other side.

MxRacer855

Hood pin holes are drilled.  :2thumbs: At first I thought they looked a little far back (Towards the windshield), but that's where the radiator core support is. So, must be the spot. I've seen a lot of guys use the grille support too. I guess it's kind of 50/50... :shruggy:

Finishing touches in the engine compartment and one more block sanding and then ready for paint!  :2thumbs:

Driver side.

MxRacer855

So the my new Reilly Motorsports AlterKation kit doesn't come with the main K-Member bolts (4) or the eccentric ones to adjust camber on the upper control arms (4). My stock ones were in really rough shape, so I thought I would try something cool...

First I sandblasted them and then I had them plated in Cadmium. It was really expensive ($85) for what it was and I'm not sure if I would do it again, but it's supposed to be very durable and impervious to corrosion (at least for a very very long time). The plating also has a very slippery characteristic, which is good for the eccentric pivot bolts. I'm not the happiest with the  way the finish looks, but they're NOT the most noticeable parts on the car anyway.

Anyway, here they are.

MxRacer855

Here's the Cadmium plating. The bolts look like there is rusty spots on them, but that's just how they look in the picture for some reason. I can assure you that they were spotless prior to being dropped off, and a fully plated in every spot.

PlainfieldCharger

:2thumbs: Good progress. It the plating color Gold? Any plating is better than nothing :2thumbs: Not sure the price is out of line. The shops I talked with have a minimum dip charge.

MxRacer855

Thanks!

It's not gold... obviously not a bright silver like zinc either. The best way to describe it is a galvanized look, I guess.

Yeah, it might be reasonably priced for what it is, but it's hard to swallow for short orders. A bundle deal like you mentioned is most likely the way to go.

The company is called Three J's in Des Plaines I think... ever heard of them?

Great work Jeff,
I remember when you first started asking questions, I think you thought you were out of your depth,
But you've done your home work , good skills ,
This car is in very good hands,
Another one saved properly, keep posting ,  :2thumbs: we all love photo's and a good story and detail pal ,
We missed out on all the rust repair work, not boring to us charger guys
This is going to be a fantastic car,

MxRacer855

Thanks guys for the kind words!

Yeah, at first I felt very out of my element. Not only have I NEVER done anything like this before... but it was a higher end resto on top of it.
I really didn't want to screw it up. It's going to be a restomod that really does have a lot of the classic side still there. That's why we drive 45 year old cars.  :2thumbs:
With that though, I am taking a very fair amount of liberties as far as not powdercoating things the exact shade they should be, etc. Take my steering column for instance... I thought it would look really cool if the netted housing was gloss black and the shaft was Chrysler silver, so I did it.
I know some people will hate it, but I think it looks cool!

Anyway, definitely excited about this car's progress. The hardest part has been choosing the wheels!!! LOL
They have to be 17"s because of the oversized brakes... but I think I'm going to go with these... my friends dad owns Billet Specialties, so it's in my benefit to go with them.

Any opinions on these rims guys? Billet Specialties "Classic"
Rear:17x9.5
Front:17x8

fy469rtse

Oh you've done it now,
Jeffs doing a group buy for us fellas, can you get your friend on the phone to ask his dad , oh I think roughly five or six thousand sets ha ha ,
Great job , on the metal work and prep, shows that you trying your best

FJMG

Great work!
One thing that popped out for me was that I noticed that in the beginning this appears to be a factory console automatic car and if so (not sure if you have the tag or BS) looks like you have one of the versions that has the two-bolt clutch pedal bracket spot-welded on the firewall, next to the inner fender, by mistake right from the factory.
Of the three console autos I have, one also has this factory blunder.

MxRacer855

fy469rtse -

I would always do my ABSOLUTE best to help out my Charger friends to the fullest extent! That one may..... be a little tough to pull of though.
Do you like them though? Good choice to still have that "classic" look on a bigger wheel?
