OH NO I BROKE A ROD AND WASTED A CYLINDER!

  On my compressor! Running it up to pressure to use all of a sudden the normal loud hum got all weird and rough. After shutting it down I figured "well that's dead now" and went on to finish what I was doing without compressed air.  After pricing new ones and thinking it over I Googled "compressor repair" and found this:

  I never knew they were so easy to rebuild. As the one in the video is close to mine I took mine apart and found the piston seal failed and a piece of that bound up snapping the rod. I found kits online from over 100 to about 66 bucks, even in stock right by me a Sears. Some of the other parts like seals for the pressure tube from the head to the tank regulator started adding up with shipping so I checked eBay. I found a seller on eBay with the seals at a fraction of everywhere else so I contacted them. For 47.00 I'm getting everything, rod/piston, seals, gaskets, sleeve and tube seals shipped free. I bought this compressor many years ago used for 100.00 and worked it hard construction jobs and at home and now it just may run better than ever soon. 
  I can post pics if any are interested, I'm kinda amazed these are so easily repaired. If your is loosing performance or failing look into rebuilding!

  Good to know parts are cheap enough to make it worth the effort.
When something like that fails for me the first thing I think of is how much will a new one cost? I expect a lot of stuff that is an easy fix goes to goodwill or scrap.
Just today I had a small space heater stop working and I took it apart intending to salvage something like misc. screws. I found a broken wire and with a crimp connector it was like new and while it was open a good air blast cleaned out all the accumulated dust. ( I almost went out to buy a new one)
