Has anyone tried using Monroe 58577 load adjusting shock absorbers on their 69 Charger?
Before I buy them I'd liket o see if anyone else has tried them first?

Thanks

Shakey

Hello and welcome to the forum.
I've never heard of these shocks.
What are they supposed to do?
If the back of your car is sagging
I doubt any type of shock absorber
sans air shocks will level it.
You would be better off installing
new springs and high quality shocks
like Edkebrock or KYB's.  :Twocents:

They are a standard Monroe Sensa-Trac with a coil spring installed over the shock body. http://www.amazon.com/Monroe-58577-Sensa-Trac-Adjusting-Absorber/dp/B000C53RX0

They may provide a slight lift to a worn springs set. They will certinaly be much firmer, possibly to the point of harsh, no personal experience there. They certainly will not provide the smoothness of control you need for accelleration and you may have wheel hop issues with them.

HPP,

I am familiar with the Monroe's you mention. They
are good shocks especially on trucks.

might be over thinking this  :image_294343:,  but !  air shocks are a no no  on mopars , because for the rear shock absorber cross member , is not really a rigid piece , quite flimsy infact , think if you start fitting shock absorbers with like a coil over springs  , think it could cause damage to the cross member , in the long term  :shruggy:  ..... if the OEM  cross member was a 1/8"th think &  welded to the trunk floor as well as the rear frame rails  ,  could see them being ok to use ,  :scratchchin:

I don't know TT.......I have old skool Gabriel hijacker on my Q5.
No problems so far but granted the car doesn't see 1000 miles a year either.

Other guys will chime in about this.........stand by.

It's well known that the rear shock crossmember on old Mopars isn't strong enough for holding the car up. Lots of them have been wrecked by people using air shocks over the years.

Thank you guys for all the positive advice, I am so glad I posted this now I won't get down and mess up my car LOL!
I'll just have to save up for new leaf springs and get stock shocking Sorbers again thank you I appreciate it!

FYI, i'm not exactly new on this site I have been on here for about a year haha!

I have always liked a slight rake on muscle cars especially 2nd
gen Chargers.

What other methods are available to achieve this?
I'd gladly lose the air shocks on my car now.

I have new "stock height" - as listed by Summit Racing)
Mopar Performance leaf springs on my car.

I would never put butt ugly long shackles on any car either.

Whaddya say guys?

I put extended shackles on my 69 Charger and it didn't look bad at all, they are not huge they are barely noticeable and it put a 2" lift in the rear. I just need new leaf springs as mine I'm positive are the originals and they sag. That's why I was looking at getting those load adjusting shocks but if the bracket can't handle the stress I'll just wait on new shackles.

HPP

Reasonable ways to get rake: extra arch in the rear springs, extra leafs in the rear springs, turn down the front springs, drop spindles, taller aspect ratio rear tire, shorter aspect ratio front tires.

Risky way to get rake; air shocks, bolt on leaf helper springs, bolt on shock coils, extended shackles.

All true HPP. The entire suspension system on my
car is new and I don't pump up the air shocks all the way.

Probably a project for the spring.......no pun intended.

Problem solved!
So I took my sub system out of the trunk (2x 10" Kenwood speakers and 1000 watt amp) as I don't really listen to the stereo loud I away listen to the engine lol
When I took them out my neighbor asked if I put new springs on because the rear looked so much higher than before. I guess the subs were weighing ol' girl down. The shockers still have no bounce to them...so they are still good.
I will leave the subs out and I'll be ok!

Thanks

Back in the day I used coil over shocks in the rear my car with no problem at all.  With My sons 74 Challenger I put new springs in it and it didn't change the ride height at all. During the rebuild I welded washers into the shock cross member for reinforcement and put in a set of air shocks.  It only took 40 lbs. in them to bring it up slightly more than level and time will tell the results. :shruggy:
