If anybody's interested ? ... I will keep a thread going on a 512 stroker "sleeper" currently underway ?
Customer wants it to look as stock as possible, he is using headers, other than that he OK with just the M/P Valve Covers.

As before, NO maintenance is high on the criterion as well, so again just a "custom" Hydraulic Flat Tappet Camshaft..... which we have very good luck with in that department as long as we Dyno and set them up before they leave.
Yes, far easier to make more power with "Roller" Camshafts.... but we've found problems at 30-40K miles with those... be darned if we don't have F.T. Hydraulics still running fine at over 70K !

So.... the basics
readily available premium unleaded fuel
power brakes
512 Cubic Inch Stroker Kit
Vintage 1970 440 Block
Source Aluminum Heads(These will get a full stg 3 Porting Job... the real shit)
Aluminum 6-pack Intake & carbs
sleeper... sleeper.. sleeper
we'll shoot for 650 Torque and a "tad" over 600hp.... which with a quiet running F.T. Hydraulic Cam will be a "challenge"... but nonetheless can be driven across the country with no problems vrs the Roller.

Unlike the "lowly 440" builds... this one is not reccomended for the DIY guys, once I get the Head/Intake R & D photos up you'll see why ?... sorry, no Cam info either.

A six-pack setup, for a low-maintenance build?  Ya don't see that very often.

I've read of 6 Barrel/Six Pack setups making better mpg than a 4 barrel setup. I've read of 4 barrel setups making more power than a 6 barrel/Six Pack.
Maybe this is because the 6 Barrel setups have always used the factory intake whereas the 4 barrel setup always used a more modern intake.
I'm interested in learning of the long term durability issues regarding the roller setup. Is it related to the construction of the lifters or to the cam itself? Are there oiling deficiencies leading to early failures?

Please...stop with the six pak fables. I ran one for 30 yrs, extremely reliable - low maintenance.
Many others have had the same success...they just don't post on here

LOL !
Yeah, the last "complete and already tuned".... 6-pack Intake & Carb setup we installed from a reputable wholesaler.... required 6 hrs friggi'in around on the Dyno by itself to get them working properly !
After that it was GREAT  :2thumbs:... just say'in.... IMO, they ARE NOT good to go out of the box ? and this one going on the extra inches? I expect will also require work.

These "Source" Heads and the 6 BBL Intake are going to have some work in them, like about 40 hrs.... so it will be interesting.

We just started basic Block prep and Sonic testing.... stay tuned.

I for one would like to follow along, your build is exactly what I want, with the six pack. Would you consider doing another set of heads along side?

Could you PM me, perhaps you could build 2
