Hi to those who remember me. I have been away from the fold for a long time, those who know me know why.  :'(
I also had to sell the sublime 69 charger which (as you will understand) was gutting, so I have given the old forum a bit of a wide berth for a while.
Anyhow.
The excellent news is that I am on the lookout for a new charger here in the uk....daily driver type, and I am interested in your opinions on this motor on Ebay

Here is the link to the ebay page
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4623819619&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

Apart from the pinhole rust in the trunk floor, what do you guys think?

I have a nagging doubt about the rear quarters...something doesn't look right with the metalwork around the wheel wells (both sides). I'm not sure if it isn't because I am used to chrome trim here... I have mentioned it to the seller, but have a feeling I came across as a bit of a half wit!.
Anyhoo..any opinions on this are welcome...I know it isn't numbers matching - that doesnt bother me... daily driver fun car is what I want.
Thanks all and good to be back,
Nick (Limey)

JMF

Hi there, i'm from England as well and have been keeping an eye on this, the guy who is selling seems to be fairly honest in his description, just cosmetics it looks like it needs, I don't like the hood scoop myself and I would choose a different shade of blue if I were to repaint it, if he would drop to £11k it looks like a good deal, you mentioned you had one before, just out of interest where did you keep it? In a garage? That's one of my biggest dilemmas with one is that they are too big for our English garages?

limey

Hi JMF, yeah, I agree with you wholeheartedly on the whole scoop/colour thing. But from what the vendor says, the paint is ok superficially but really needs to be done again with good prep., but on a daily driver, I shouldn't worry about that.
I have asked for a pic of the trunk floor, as my willingness to let the auction ride to the "Buy it now" price is centred around how urgent the trunk floor repairs are. Like you, I would keep to 11k if it was going to need doing anytime soon.
As for the garage, I used to have a very large workshop/garage when I last owned a charger, but a fairly tragic change in circumstances caused me to lose it. So, I have a regular rubbish British garage, which is currently full of a dismantled 45 year old land rover. So if I join the bidding on this old girl here, it will be staying on the road. I had vowed I wouldn't get another charger until I had somewhere to put it...but as our american cousins will appreciate, with the average house price over here coming in at about $500,000 for a property the size of a cadillac, if I buy a bigger house with a bigger garage, I won't be able to afford a Charger!!!! :P

So...JMF...what do you think of those rear quarters????
Oh and lastly...to the UK guys..what do you think of this?

She is up for £42000 ($72, 856) on the docks, all taxes paid, registered, tested and SVA'd :yesnod:

But what a beauty!!!

Bit out of my price range...will stick with Ebay... ;D

Welcome aboard, Limey.
I came along shortly after you left, but did find some of the final threads one day. Coming from someone you don't know, I'm glad you've been able to move on & that you've got yourself a great looking '68 to play with!

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

:iagree: the lower  rear quarters look to be angled in more  :scope: could of been plated up, or full of bondo, and the rear arches look to rounded to me, easy fix would be to put the stainless wheel arch mouldings on just my  :Twocents:

Thanks charger_fan...the 68 isn't mine...just up on ebay, but I'm very seriously thinking of bidding. :-\
Tan top..you've hit the nail on the head.....the tops of the rear arches are too rounded, they should be flatter.  I think the folded in lower quarter  looks ok, but its those rounded arches that doesn't sit right.
Has anyone experience of fitting wheelarch moldings?
Are they flexible enough to fit around those arches if they aren't quite right?
AM I making a fuss about nothing....?
Should I wait for the next one to come along...bearing in mind there aren't many over here?
Hmmmmmmm... :-\ :-\

Welll.......it's never too late mate!! ;) ;) ;) I've just dropped a clanger in another thread...misread a statement..slandered all third gen owners....within minutes of coming back to the board...so I can't talk about accurate reading! ;D

SuBLimE 69

I'd like to see some old Limey Charger Pics if you have any !

Doug  :icon_smile_tongue:

This ticket is only $69.00 ?  If I'd have known that I'd have been going FASTER !

JMF

There was a nice green one on UK Ebay not long ago, 440 as well which he wanted a similar price for so i'd imagine what the guy with the blue one is asking is reasonably fair, obviously you could get something in similar condition in America cheaper but it costs us about £5k to import all in all so we have to pay more as they are rarer, where abouts you from Limey? I'm in Twickenham, London

tan top

you can slightly force them to fit ,or cut a small (V shape) out of the flange of the stainless  arch moulding where the screws go  then tweak it to fit, it would be OK for  a daily driver. if i bought it i would strip the  quarters to see what its covering up though , got any pictures of the charger you had before :popcrn:

Welcome back Nick    I hope all is well

Good luck on your quest for a new ride!

Chris' '69 Charger R/T

limey

I'm in Newcastle...like, y'knaa!!! :P
Yeah...I think the price is fair....the values of Chargers....well all B bodies, over here is flying through the roof, I have looked into buying in the states and shipping over, but it really is a costly business..One of the board members was gonna sell me his at a very reasonable price but once the import duties  etc were taken care of, it was no longer cost effective. If you are going to bring in a perfect numbers matching car then it is worth it, but...if you want a daily driver, best to let someone else import it first...So JMF, are you  a charger owner, or in the market for one too?

Hey..sublime! I will have a look and see if I can find some....I didn't have a digital camera then so I only had a few, and a lot of them I gave away with the car...too upsetting to keep the pictures... :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
Either way.. "Limey" was definitely a daily driver with dinged paint and slightly tatty interior. Yours is an absolutely gorgeous machine!! ;D
I guess you are asked this all the time.....but what wheel/tire combo do you have? They look hot!hot!hot!

Tan top..thanks for the info....trouble with stripping the quarters is, if I start that it'll end up being a rotisserie restoration....I'm that kind of person...you know ..the grille badge is not straight.....I end up taking the grille off....then the radiator out to put it back on....then I pull the engine, take of the front fenders....rebuild the suspension.... you know the kind of person I am now?
So I want to buy a Charger I can drive most days and just enjoy...which is why I'm worried about those rear quarters... :-\ :-\

Chris - thanks for the welcome...glad to see you are still chargin'
;D
Cheers, Nick ;)

HI Tan top....no haven't gone to see the car in person....won't be able to before the close of the auction either. It isn't local to me, and  I'm not away from work commitments before it comes up on Sunday night...Not ideal, I know.. :-\
Thing is, over here, where you have to seriously consider buying a car unseen on a different continent, if you want a charger, it seems acceptable!!

Blackcrowe - yeah I know of the MMA forum, and know of Dave.  I saw that there was a nice Hemi Orange '68 for sale very near me. That was in January though....chance of it still being available is quite slim! I might ring and find out. Nothin to lose! ;)

I think I would have to get an inspection if I was buying a car unseen, like Limey said here in England we don't have much choice

rare69

if that black 69 is as nice as the picture i would find the extra scratch! :yesnod:that is a bad looking ride.

ChargerBill

NICK!! Great to see you bud. Hope life is treating you well... Too bad you had to sell the Charger, but I'm glad to see you're getting back into it. I was just on the verge of selling mine due to bad financial circumstances myself, but I came through the other end doing OK, and still have the Charger. It's not done yet, but it's still MINE.

I agree that black one looks sweet...but $72K??? Yikes!

BTW: Stick around this time... :yesnod:

I'd probably have to sell all of my cars, my wife and a kidney to raise the $$$ to buy the black beauty...anyway, as I understand, it is still on your side of the pond, the guy who is selling it here has an option on it I think....

Well... the blue 440 has gone...just phoned the guy mere minutes after he accepted a deposit from somone else... :'(

Actually...no.... if those rear quarters didn't look right, they weren't going to look right when they were parked on my drive ::)
I'm not strong enough to have stopped myself from buying it, but I think its just as well...hold out for something better.

Just been speaking to a guy with a 68 for sale that he has owned for 24 years, rebuilt - ground up resto 9 years ago, "Blade" gunmetal paintwork. He is emailing me pics over the weekend....you guys will be the first to know!! ;)
Cheers, Limey

No harley, but I do like to prance around in the tightest assless leather chaps I can find. ;D

Still have the Charger, tho its been hibernating for a couple of years now. Prospects are good for getting it back on the road in a couple of months though.

HI XS! Good to see you are still well and chargin'!
As for the "my wife" reference, she is all but....these days if anyone says "my partner" everyone assumes they are gay! ::)
The blue charger is definately gone..so the money stays in my account until I find something else!...the metallic gunmetal grey "blade" 68 (see previous post) looks like a possibility, but, again, I am not the only interested party. We shall see!
