Put my 69 in the local Autorama today and just wanted to say a quick thanks to the DC.com community. Being a Pontiac guy there is are a lot of unknowns for me on a project like this. Every question I had or part I needed someone came through with a solution. Car isn't done- still have drivability issues (firecore here I come) but seeing the car complete and cleaned up it reminded me of how far the car has come and all of the knowledge I was able to pick up here.

Here are some pics of the 69 with the wife's TA:

Thanks,

Jeremy

I've been saying thanks to the members here for 9 years!   :yesnod:

Can only imagine what it'd be like trying to restore a car using only local contacts, a Hemmings magazine, a telephone and Canada Post and USPS.   :eek2:

The two cars look fantastic - well done!

That's probably one of the best GL displays I've seen in a long time.  :2thumbs:

Nice cars, they look great!

Thanks guys- originally i was going to be part of a bigger display from the shop that painted it but they ran out of time. I was trying to find a way to go with the country theme and not spend a ton of cash. All in all the display cost about $150 not including the posters or the vintage Coors crate.

Surprised that they gave me a spot right as you walk in- can't miss 'em.

I remember restoring cars in high school with Hemings and local clubs. It's a double edged sword. I think restored cars are the highest quality they have ever been- the amount of knowledge, photos and tips online is staggering.

25 years ago you went to junk yards, dug for parts, hung out with friends and older fans of the same car learning what to do and how to do it. I really miss the junk yards...

Wow, that's a nice combination to have in the garage. I think you need a red 75 Grand Torino next.

With the 7 mpg 460 that made a whopping 170 HP.

Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

Your cars and display look awesome..... I to miss junkyards. For one whole summer a friend of mine that was into 65 66 impalas used to go to a different one every Saturday .rain or shine. Man that was fun. I found my first roll dial am/fm radio for my Charger for 40.00......

Some guy wanted to trade me his smokey and bandit trans am for my charger the  he threw in there, i needed 5k added because my trans am is more rare than a 68 charger.

I was like huh?  :shruggy: ::)

And i didnt even start no conversation with trade or sell he just walked up to me to tell me how awesome his car was and said off da bat i need 5k.

Really nice display !  Both cars look fantastic !!  Also, a very nice job putting together the display !!

I remember cruising the junkyards for parts and the "For Sale" lots looking for nice older MOPARS back in the mid-70's and seeing they were already getting scarce. I found a great condition 1970 Challenger R/T on a lot in the older low-income side of town and asked the price for cash as it had a $1700.00 price sign on it. The manager of the lot said he couldn't sell me the car at any price as he had already repossessed it 3 times and it was his best seller! He said I would give him the money and it would be gone and he makes too much money on the car! All I could say was WTF and walk away!

Got off-subject a little with the story but I really like your display and cars !!  Congrats !!

Great Presentation!! Very well done cars!!  :2thumbs:

Thanks for all of the kind comments guys. I was a little disappointed how the cars did at the show - but you don't drive a car to a show like that and expect win against cars that are pushed on and off the trailer. Both cars got 4th in their class- I was told there were 35+ in the categories I was in. The 69 came in 4th behind (3) 69 camaro's. In all fairness people spend stupid money on those cars and the money goes a lot further on a camaro. The TA had a lot of competition as well and looking at the judges notes I felt they were pretty fair.

Still- I am fine with how the cars did. The amount of people surrounding the cars over the course of the four days was amazing. Several photos of the cars showing up on twitter and Instagram; families taking photos in front of the cars- hell I waited in line to take a picture of my kids in front of the cars! These were easily the most photographed cars at the show.

Here are a few photos of the cars towards the end of the show- look much better with the hoods down!

Dino

There's the 'show and shine' trophies and there's the 'evoke some priceless memories' trophies and I'd say you won both in the latter category.  I'm not a fan of movie and TV cars, but that was one hell of a display I would have enjoyed to see with my own eyeballs.   :2thumbs:

4th is pretty respectable when you look at the size of the event.  Well done
