Afraid? yes.
Curious ? yes.

Would I swim in the ocean if I knew they were there ? no.  Somethings are better off not knowing

But I rarely go beyond waist deep anyway.

2 years ago when we were in St Augustine FL. there was a 3 footer swimming right up near the shore, in less than 2 - 3 ft of water.
I havent been in the ecean since

a 3 footer is lunch (flake )  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flake_(fish)

these are 17-18  and 13 footers     respectively     the whites are as big as and weigh the same as a car  1700 kg = 3747 pounds  :eek2:

Cotton mouth isn't nothing compared to your guys' 2 step Charlie :o

that's further up in Asia, but any of the   dozen or so that are deadly  would give you a bad day   :yesnod:

most of ours stop your heart/lungs as opposed to the flesh killing venom that your snakes seem to have  :scratchchin:

Mamba is what I was thinking of, which is African.  After watching the croc hunter play with them so much, I confused them as to being Australian.

please don't take it the wrong way as it is wrong to speak ill of the dead, but he was a bit of a dick. all the animals he showed people were stressed to the max and in defence mode if you know what I mean  :Twocents:

No offense taken.  I understand what you mean.  While his purpose was educational, it did put a lot of stress on the animals that he dealt with.  A look, don't touch policy would have been better for everyone though.

I am scared to death of being in the water with one but also couldn't get enough info on them in my childhood.

Bruce as in finding Nemo, now it makes sense .  There was a shark called Bruce on the west coast a few years ago.  Is that the connection?
Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."?

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

Dino

Bruce was the shark in Jaws, named after Spielberg's lawyer.  I'm pretty sure Nemo's Bruce was named after him.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

And I thought I was so clever googling bruce and shark together to see the smiling creature on finding nemo. :smilielol:

The original ideas are out there.

But the studios don't want to take creative risks on unproven stuff . . .

. . . because there is so much at stake if they guess wrong . . . because movies cost so much to make now . . . because the SFX & production quality & marketing costs have gotten so high . . . because modern audiences expect so much . . . because ticket prices are so high . . . because movies cost so much to make now . . .
