VON number vs bodystamping 68.

The shipping code (the last six numbers on the fendertag) does not match the bodystamping on my project-car. Funny thing is that its only ONE number that doesnt match.

The body says 094236 on the radiator support and trunklip, and on the fendertag it says 094296.
Another funny thing is that when i decode the fendertag, everything matches. The options, the interior colors, the outside colors, AC, tinted windshield, etc. I have looked like ten times to see if i maybe read one of the numbers wrong, but no.

Strange, right? Is it a fake fendertag or what?

This is the bottom line on the fendertag: XP29 62 5 43 A12 094296, and VIN: XP29H8B168234

What other characters are there on the body stamps?

Could be a typo on the body....sometimes numbers get reversed....seen that a few times

I agree, it's a "TYPO"  - either the body numbers or the fender tag (I've seen more body number errors than fender tags).  Do you have a b'cast sheet?  If so, what's the SHIPPING ORDER NUMBER on it?

Agree.
Or maybe the "9's" were weak in the stamp.....how about some pics of the body numbers and the f-tag.

There is a one digit difference on the stamp in my front clip from the VIN of my '72.  These stamps were placed by hand so there is bound to be some human error once in a while.

Here's the tag:

Here's the trunk lip stamping:

Not easy to see the numbers on the last pic, but that second to last number is 3.

Thanks guys, really appreciate the help! :)
