I am not sure what it looks like exactly but does anybody know where I can get a shifter to transmission rod for a '69 440/A727? It's a floor mounted/console shifter. Or even a photo of one so I know what to look for. If anybody has one for sale, I'd be interested as well. Just about ready to fire it up. The last few weeks are killing me with all this last minute nickel and dime stuff...

Thanks,

I ended up building my own (assuming you're not needing exact match). I had the same problem and looked for months before I finally broke down. Heres how I did it...

Purchase 1/4" steel rod stock from local hardware store. Also purchase two Heim Joints (these are flexible and allow motion while still linking the ends). You'll want to purchase the heim joints with female threads on the end. Also, purchase a thread tap that matches the threads on the heim. You'll cut the 1/4" rod for the length, knowing that you'll have "slack" to adjust by putting more threads or less in the heim join. Tap the ends, attach the heim joints and then put the rod into the connector. you'll want to be sure you get the right length or you'll drop the stick to "D" and it will still be in "N", or worse yet, you'll put it in "P" and it will be in "R". If you do it right, it is very tight, but smooth.

I hope this helps..

I may have one or two - but would need to see one or get measurements on one to make sure (way too much "un-marked" stuff ...)

I followed what terry did calif240, good advice after searching for the correct rod ,
Mines hardly a concourse resto , was endlessly searching for the correct rod and connections
Lucky I saw Terry's post and thought rationally WTF am I doing
Made my own , threaded rod , helm joints for the ends , smooth no slack, will last
