Can anyone recommend a good, comfortable work shoe?

Looking for some ideas for a pair of shoes for working around the house. Im flat footed to begin with so standing on my feet for long periods of time can be uncomfortable.   Can anyone recommend a shoe, not a workboot that is good for all times of the year, and would be good for standing on concrete? I thought of using shock mats in the garage but there is just too much area to cover and I dont like the look.   I work in an office during the week and Monday mornings my knees and back are sore as hell because on the weekends Im always working on something.

appreciate any ideas

I've used Rockport shoes for years.  Used them for walking around a construction site, at the office, in the garage.   I think they are fairly light weight and have a steel shank in the sole for support.  Come is a lot of styles.  (gosh, I sound like a commercial!!)

I'll second this.  Excellent shoes.  They have 125 styles showing on-line. http://www.rockport.com/all-mens-shoes

They were fantastic shoes, and USA made, in the old days (80s,90s) then Reebok bought the company.  Now they are Asian made, which means less fantastic, but still a very good value compared to all the junk shoes.  Available in extra wide widths if you have Fred Flintstone feet like me.

Red Wings are great, but pricey in my experience.  Rockport has outlet stores that actually have real discounts.

You need more than shoes, you need arch support inserts.  If you have really good insurance you can have a pedorthist make them, I did this for years.  If that's not an option try something like a powerstep:  http://www.amazon.com/Powerstep-Original-Length-Orthotic-Insoles/dp/B0013308VE

They fit in most shoes, especially if the original inserts come out.  Dress shoes are the trickiest.

I like Merrells.  Got a pair of the Pulsates last month.   Love'em.  I'm flat footed and on my feet every day.  They will
last me almost a year.

Red Wings are not cheap but they last forever. I have a pair of non insulated, over the ankle, work boots that I bought in the early 90's & still have them. They are shot now & I am going to buy another pair just like them. I wore them almost every day for about 5 or 6 years until I stopped working in the field on construction sites. The ones I have are made in the USA, but some in their line are now imported. I also bought a pair of regular shoes from Red Wing & wore them in the office for years. The insole wore out & I am sending them back to the company to be reconditioned. That may sound odd but the shoe, other than some scuffs are in perfect shape after 10 years. I was quoted a price but forget how much. It is a lot cheaper than a new pair though.
