Hey all
there is a black/black 68 Charger RT Track Pak for sale at Atlas Muscle Cars.
Im guessing its a 4:10 Dana axle.
Was the tall HP intake manifold part of this package?
Anyone bought a car from them?
thanks!

Is that a 383 non-hipo exhaust system?
Should be a crossover system on an R/T.

Any other irregularities?

Yes - That is not a stock intake.
Looks like the dash VIN has been painted over.

Is there a broadcast sheet? Is there a pic of the fender tag?

Track Pack is a 3.54 Dana and a mandatory option with a 4 speed behind a 440 HP.

Homerr

Track Pak = 3.54 Dana, standard on R/T 4-speed (optional on autos)
Super Track Pak = 4.10 Dana, optional

Sometimes it's the little stuff, and on a $55k car it seems like the tach should be working.  Also, no fiberboard panel between rear seat and trunk, no trunk mat, no spare, no jack, looks like trunk pan holes not drilled out, not much of an attempt at blending the trunk panel seam in the middle, no trunk tail light cover ('68's had these, right?), no jack instruction sticker, no stripe delete R/T badges or R/T stripe, foam in drivers seatback side looks all crammed in, carpet and headliner look a bit wrinkly.  Looks like manual steering.

Would be nice to compare the fender tag (if it's included) with the car.  I suspect they are not showing it because it was originally a triple-green car or something like that.  New interior, blasted over dash, and looks like the underside was spot sprayed where ever there is no undercoating all would support this theory.

I'm not talking you out of the car, just giving some pointers to talk them down on price.  Could be driven as is, or detailed over time to look much more correct.

1968s Chargers didn't have a tail light cover and there were no badges for stripe delete (it was really just no stripe). Neither of my real 68 R/Ts had a stripe from the factory. The ad says "manual steering" on the last line.

No one noticed it has headrests? Fairly rare for 68.

The "new" upper door pads have a plug where the lock knob was moved. Nice. :eyes: The ad says "The headlight doors open and close vey well (see video)" but then you watch the video and the doors open (and close!) one at a time. :eyes: :eyes: The filled in rear valance corners strike again! It definitely has a new trunk seal. ;)

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

DadsCharger00

Kinda looks like it would be difficult to start the car....considering that there isn't a place to put the key....check it out in the pics....the hole is empty!

DadsCharger00

and is it just me...or does the dash kinda look greenish.....like maybe it was repainted?

Not sure on 68's but from 69-71 the only Dana you could get with an auto would be a 4.10

Again not sure on '68's - but could you get a Dana with auto? Something tells me no.

Definitely couldn't get a 4.10 with an auto until '69.

Here is a clip of an article I helped with many moons ago

70 sublime

Yea not sure why the door locks buttons are moved forward 68 should be located back by the glass

One picture you can just see the headliner in the back corner where it comes down to the seat is very loose (all the pictures with headliner show wrinkles in it , not a very tight job)
next project 70 Charger FJ5 green

My 68 R/T 4-speed has a 3.54 Dana. I was under the impression that you couldn't get a 4.10 at all that year (as your chart indicates). I don't know if I've ever seen a 68 auto with a Dana. I believe that part you quoted was a copy-paste from somewhere (probably a 69 site).

I bet they used 69 doors and were cursing the makers of the pads for "screwing them up". ;)

Pet Peeve.....

For $55K, I want the heater hoses routed correctly.
Seeking information on '69 St. Louis plant VINs, SPDs and VONs. Buld sheets and tag pictures appreciated. Over 3,000 on file thanks to people like you.

I believe that you are correct sir.

HeavyFuel

Ok.

'68.....R/T....numbers.....4 speed.    Can't argue with that, nice pedigree.

But the attention to detail on this car is terrible.   A true injustice.  Way over priced for what needs to be fixed on the car.

I hate to pick apart other peoples work, but....C'mon, Man!  Some of this stuff can only be explained by just pure not caring how the car turns out.

Apparently this was the restoration plan:   Give it decent paint and throw on scads of new parts...quickly....and flip it.

The list of problems is very long....a couple of the low points.    Just too many to hit 'em all.

Given the list of issues with this car, I'd say that high 20's would be a more realistic price, and that would be assuming that the paint and bodywork was not just a quickie job.

And that's a lot of assuming.  Something tells me it's a bit less than stellar.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Thanks for the corrections on axles, stripes, and tail light covers.   :2thumbs:
