not  being familiar with Holley or Carter could the Carter be changed over to run on E 85  or does that  still require a specific kit as there no seals below the fuel level ? Thanks..

I think most of the aftermarket seals are ethanol friendly. A call to their tech lines would answer that. Otherf then gaskets, the rest is jetting and metering since the e85 will burn ALOT leaner. Why are you interested in running e85?

A  couple of years ago I bought a 440 for my 68 Charger.  Supposedly it has 12:1 compression though I haven't been able to confirm it. I planned  to make a "race car" out of it and now I  am not  so sure  thats what I want  to do and I am just thinking out loud. Also E85 was  LESS expensive then  but thats changing too.

Only way to confirm it is just pull a head and measure. If it doesnt have big domes and zero deck height, then i wouldnt be planning on that kind of compression. E85 would not be my choice of race gas.

I understand the  0 deck height and  C.C. ing the head  but how do you figure any dome in the piston ? Isn't the head gasket figured into that also ??

E85 benefits in two ways:

1. Cheaper
2. Cooler burn than gasoline

It is very difficult to determine actual octane ratings in e85.  The 105 octane rating is a myth.  The better performance is due to the cooling properties of the ethanol vaporizing at cooler temps than gasoline. You have to be careful purchasing it because depending on the season that blend may actually be e70.

Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
