I have searched the archives but didn't find an explanation. I took my heater panel assembly apart years and years ago and now surprisingly can't remember how it goes back together. I'm not referring to the cables, I can figure those out. It's the little metal wiper piece on top that hooks to the middle switch. I see how it goes but I need pics of how the little spring that rides on it is secured. It looks like it may a little spring clip...not sure...any detailed pics out there?...thanks.

good timing  , just finishing up from  converting mine from AC , to a standard heater box set up  ,  had  a couple control panels apart , rebuilt the blower motor switch ,etc

control panels are  one 70 model year , the one i'm using &  another for bits , ( they all work the same! ,  early 68s are a different style & 70s have lights ) ,  the roller on the defog /heat leaver has a thick end & a thin end  , the heater control panel I had for parts , had the roller thin end up , the real good 70 control panel had thick end up  :shruggy: , don't think it makes any difference  :shruggy:

its goes spring  ,  washer , then push nut  !

I know not correct ! wanted a 70 control panel , because it is illuminated  :P

Hey, thanks a lot. This is exactly what I needed. My roller appears to be a little different, so I wasn't sure if I was missing something or not. I think I have all I need. Thanks again.

your dad was the original  owner !!  wow great stuff !   have you got any old back in the day pictures , would love to see them sometime     ,  if you get time , be a good idea to start a new  thread on your charger

since knowing  , your dad had this charger from new  , I started investigating  these control panels again  , guessing yours is the  early 68 , chrome strip , with chrome letters one  ,  like the ones below  ,    first few I found pictures of were , the same roller as in my pictures  :yesnod: , then  found  another 68 only chrome one  , with the same roller as yours  :coolgleamA: :yesnod:
may be it was a vendor suppling parts update , superseded  at assembly plant thing  :shruggy:

pictures 1 & 2 , control with  same roller as my pictures

pictures 3 & 4  control panel  with roller same as yours  :2thumbs:

I have wanted to see some old pics too, but haven't been able to dig up any. Yeah,he bought it in 68, went to Vietnam in 69. My grandpa drove it  until 1989 until he passed away, I turned 16 and it became my first car. And yes, it is a March 68 car.

Another question on the heater assembly...Is it best to hook up the cables to the control panel first, install it in the dash and run them down to the heater box or vice versa? Thanks.

tan top

fit them on the heater box first , then run the cables up to the hole for the heater control panel  ,   use small hex head sheet metal screws  , that use a 1/4 inch socket on a1/4 drive ratchet  , for the cable  hold down clips , on the heater box, other wise if using phillips screws  , your never get in there with a screw driver  properly ! once fitted , no matter how small a screwdriver  , should you need to remove the cables any time ,   ask me how I know  :icon_smile_blackeye:  :P had to turn the threaded part of the screw with a mini long nose vice grips , a fraction at a time , to get them un done sticking arm through glove box hole     :brickwall:
