Wiring upgrade...stock or not.

Hey folks. I need to update my wiring harness and I need your input on which route to take. The car is a numbers matching triple black 69 r/t. I really want to go with a Ron Francis kit with the headlight relay upgrade, an high amp alternator. I also plan on bypassing the ammeter.  I do not show the car, but I don't know how this would effect resale down the road. But, it would nice to have a reliable electrical system. I've been flip flopping for to long and want to get this project started. So, any advise?

Thanks, Russ

Some will say it helps value but I am firmly of the camp that believes it hurts value.  I see way too many cars go through auction that have add these aftermarket wiring kits installed and rarely do they seem to improve resale.  In almost every case the savvy buyers (who most often have the biggest wallets) are looking for things that haven't been messed with too much.
However, if you plan to change a lot of things in the electrical system then getting a stock repro harness will nly mean you are cutting it up so the aftermarket may be your best bet in your case.

If you plan on selling then go stock.  If you plan to keep it then do the upgrades.  When a buyer wants to upgrade it, it won't take much to do so but if you sell a car with custom wiring, it may scare off a few potential buyers.  I would like to buy a car with modern wiring but I'm also a guy that wouldn't buy an R/T so I'm not what you call a typical buyer.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Like those gentlemen said, if you're planning to sell down the road then think no further: keep it stock.  UNLESS, you find a buyer who doesn't care about what sort of wiring harness you have in the car.  You also have to take into account what type of buyer you'd be selling to.  Some will insist on as many OEM pieces as possible, others, like myself, are only intersted in how solid the body, frame and paint are and how well it runs, regardless of the pedigree of the parts...

If you are planning to sell, I'd suggest stock given the car's pedigree.  However, your initial statement answers the question...it is your car, do what you want--Get the RF Kit and be happy.
The stock wiring, especially new, will work and be reliable, but there are a few glaring weaknesses in it.  It is ultimately up to you...You are more likely to find a buyer at the top price point that prefers "stock" as opposed to modified, regardless of whether it is easier to service or performs better.  You'll never fully please that type of buyer tho, so it is something to keep in mind...

My best advice is to never sell the car and use the RF Kit.  Problems solved and you'll always have a great car  :2thumbs:

Yep stock appearing ,
But do the upgrades found on here , you can hide relays and such under battery tray, do the bypass , Dino did a stock appearing volt meter gauge to get rid of amp gauge
