They're fun .223's but the upper receiver isn't as strong and robust as
it looks nor are they very accurate. Nonetheless I regret selling my "pre-gun hysteria" mini-14.
Mine had the original flash suppressor. Those are no-no's now
in Commiefornia.

Hmmm, I forgot about the issues of the upper and the accuracy.  Oh well, I can go back to 1911 or bolt-action rifle shopping instead...

I don't get a hard on from guns, nor am I a gun enthusiast. (They honestly don't thrill me, no offense gun enthusiasts.)   
Just my interpretation.

As a matter of fact, I do. Same principle. I mean, remember all the outrage and vitriol when that kid sang it at an NBA game wearing a Mexican charro costume? That was disrespectful? Why aren't those people as outraged by this? Again, because guns=hard on.

By no means do I think there should be a law against this or anything, but people simply ought to show more decorum as a matter of good manners. Just like how there are protocols for use/display/disposal of the Flag.

Disrespect come from intent, not presentation. The national anthem shooter clearly spent a lot of time sorting that out and is performing it out of respect, not disrespect. That's way more relevant than opinion on whether it was good manners or not.

Are we supposed to get our panties in a wad when your kid learns it on a playschool xylophone? Gee-wizz..."Can't that kid have more respect?!"

If purity and presentation is so critically important to be respectful of the National Anthem, should we be incensed that 99% of the time it is not sung in the octave range as it was originally written ?

The song and the flag are "symbology", some are hung up on it...others aren't.
