Guys,
My car is originally a 400 2bbl. It is the non performance model, and as a consequence did not ever have a rear sway bar installed. My rear end is 8 1/4. I have been reading up about this and there are some after market options, but I would really like to fit a stock option to it. I have isolated springs and it looks like I only need to add a plate (pictured). Also pictured is my current setup. Can anybody let me know if I am on the right track with this as the only ones that I can see are fitted to a 8.75 diff. i have not purchased any of the parts yet.
Many thanks
Jason

No pic posted Jason.
After you asked, I did a bit more research.  According to the AMA specs, sway bar was available only on 340, 400HP, 440.

Possibly anything with 8 1/4 not available???  Dunno.

Thanks Bob,

For some reason I cannot upload any pictures. Sorry.
Im thinking I can attach a rear sway bar but will need to do some mods.

HPP

Since the rear housing and spring locations did not change between the various models irregardless of the engine size, you should be able to fit a stock style bar in place even using a 8.25 rear and it should still fit with a future upgrade to 8.75.

However, I'd be concerned with adding a rear bar without stepping up the front sway bar or torsion bars some as well. Sway bars increase the dynamic applied spring rate to the tires. If you add too much rear rate, the rear will slide out sooner than the front and create an unbalanced car.

Good to know HPP, I hadn't considered that aspect.
Thanks.
On the other hand, my view ... if it ain't broke, don't fix it.   :shruggy:

Hmm, yes all good points. I might wait until I actually get it back on the road and experiment a bit.
Thanks fells'a

myk

There are a couple of genuine road course racers here that will disconnect their rear sways depending on track conditions.  A rear sway doesn't automatically equate to better handling...

I also have a FY1 yellow 73 Charger 400 2bbl "M" code car with the rallye appearance package it also has the baby rear axle with factory front and rear sway bars.
